2024-2025 NCAA Football Thread

Either way, my thoughts and prayers go to those in the SEC sphere. No teams in the Semi-FInals (let's not kid ourselves folks). The B12, B10, "had" at least one team in it. And Notre Dame was in it! It got so bad, the SEC fans had to pretend they thought Texas was an SEC team. So devastating, it killed President Jimmy Carter.

So a moment of reflection for those in the SEC world that have to pretend real hard that they don't really care about this at all. :angel2

Place : the Heart of the SEC

What ?
No Home Field for the SEC this time ???

Lets hope the Refs don't decide to take center stage.
Let them Play

Not sure what conference the Refs will be from. (hopefully, not the sec) (as it turns out, they Were from the sec)

The halftime score wasn't as big as Jimbo predicted, but the Irish certainly tried to claw it back in the end. The Irish Defense did not "Play like a Champion" especially with the Roughing the Passer call when they had stopped the Buckeyes and would have forced a punt. Instead, OSU continued their drive and ate up more clock time. Likewise, the dagger at the end with a brilliant 50 yard pass when ND rushed seven sealed the deal.

Congratulations to the Ohio State University Buckeyes! They played a clean game and were clearly the worthy NCAA National Champions. Notre Dame has nothing to be down about, their 2024-2025 season came up one game short in the end.

All things considered, the playoff justified itself from a competitive standard. Good competition, more competitive college football games that we never had an opportunity to see before.

I think there is wisdom to killing the bracket and just going top v bottom after the bye. Otherwise, let's do that again.

I don't know. but when you have the #7 vs #8 in the final game just don't seem right somehow.
That'd be the whole rankings based on very limited data thing.
it's frankly stunning.
Not really. When team schedule involve two to three competitive games, it is generally impossible to say who is the best. The playoffs indicated that the rankings were wrong about the top couple of teams, but right about the inclusion of the #7 and #8 teams.
How about the Commanders vs Chargers in the SB ? NFL #7 vs #8 seeds
They'd need to take out the #1 seed and maybe the #2 or #3 to get there. So that'd be fine.

This is a peculiar complaint. We'd rather have the top four play in a playoff based on silly schedules...(and hope for the best) and then top team comes from that list... instead of having the top 8 or 12 teams play each other through a few rounds, making one team having to earn it by beating three or four of the top 12 teams?

Like you also say something wrong. rankings. but they didn't look outrageous at the start. yes we have no history.
just don't see the need for 12 teams. I think 4 was enough most years. but $$$$.
Should've went 8 saved 12 for more $$$ down the road.

That just shows you that the Conference Champions don't deserve to be place 1-4.
Change needed is, if you win your CCG, your In the Playoffs .... keeping your seed as is.

The ranking weren't necessarily accurate.

They went 12 to save the B10 and SEC from a disaster and only getting one or two teams in. Didn't work.

At the moment, there is the issue of the lack of parity between the top two conferences and the other two major ones. Having the bye might provide a mechanism for the other conferences to rebuild since the two main conferences STOLE the good teams from the other conferences. So holding the bye for a conference title matters and keeps this more of a National Football tournament instead of a B10/SEC one.

Personally, I think 15-20 + team conferences are Stupid ... unless your Goal is to be the same as the NFL ...
However, the NFL has a Definite number of teams (They add on every now and then).

The way were going inn college at the moment, if your not in the B10 or sec, its Good Luck to you.

They (those making the choices for expansion, whoever that is, is ruining the whole system if they continue)
I don't want to see a 64 team Football playoff ... (thats where basketball was when I quit paying attention to it, have no clue how many teams in March Madness anymore).

If they keep going, at what point do they STOP ?

They can't or better Not go to 130 teams that are technically out there as part of the NCAA ...
What next, have the CFP committee make some sort of agreement that they choose what teams get into thier game, doing away with the NCAA (doing away with the ncaa would be ok, but you have to have Some kind of figure involved to make rules.

I'm just afraid they are going to add teams they want and many they don't want are just OUT.

Not enough weeks in the timetable for all that ... football you can't play 3 or more games a week.

It has to stop somewhere.

All I can say id 40 or 50 years of guessing who won the championship was stupid....So and So had to win by so much but if blank loses then championship goes to someone else. Basically to many times good teams never even got a chance. And NC was picked by sports writers.

It'd stop at 16. Not enough time to go further out. It really sounds like you want the inertial pageantry instead of teams having to actually earn a title.

The only alternative I see possible is pushing the top SEC and B10, and Notre Dame into an 12 team conference (kind of like how the top Europe football teams tried to do with their own Champions League... which collapsed about the moment it was announced). Likewise, the cost would be substantial as while the Epic College Football League would draw like nuts, College Football is a business, not a sport. Schools like Vanderbilt will fall off the map. This would kill gates and ratings for the meaningless games. Not good for business.

The playoff worked! Georgia had it rough being with a second string QB. That is life. You want to win the title, you gotta win games. That is what competitive sport is about.

The problem is, you can't have a 17 game playoff in order to fill all the teams 130 or so.

Another thing, I think the teams like those in the MAC for example and some other lower level conferences, should break off and build thier own league, this way They can enjoy having a Champion every year.

For example up here the MAC does not have teams that would reasonably have a chance in the Big team conferences, they may get a team in once every 10 years and get wiped out right away... just like the basketball tournament.

You are right ... it has to Stop somewhere ... problem is, they will probably try to continue pushing more and more and eventually mess it up so bad that people will quit watching.

I think 8 or 10 teams are about right.

I cant agree, neither would FSU last year. I felt they were screwed over, they were undefeated!
