2023-2024 NCAA Football Thread

Of course, it will backfire, as will all televised sports not called NFL, and most other forms of entertainment. Streaming doesn't work as a business plan, that is clear.

Rutgers is in the Big 10 because the Big 10 Network, AKA Fox, outsmarted everyone else, which is a pretty common thing Fox does. All of the conference specific networks have an in-market and out-of-market rate. The Big 10 then added Rutgers and Maryland to pick up those markets, even though 99% of people in the NYC DMA, including those who live in New Jersey, could not care less about Rutgers.

Which bring me back to the point. Numbers are nice, but it is not everything. If you think Boston College occupies the same place in the minds of Bostonians as Alabama does in the minds of Birmingham; you need to spend some time in Birmingham. Or just watch Finebaum. Fact is that college football is a creature of the forgotten, fly over, or bluntly red places. While 1% of NYC is a whole lot more than 1% of Birmingham, or Columbus, or Kansas City, or Raleigh, the point is I can get 25 or 30% of those places, contrasted to the 1% in the northeast.
The northeast really doesn’t care about college football. It’s a pro sports region.

Lot of good "Quotes" in the first one, but the Best one is the "Rule" that says there has to be a "Commercial every 90 seconds" .... slowing the game pace down.

So fixed! Notre Dame and USC have twice the wins of any other college, meaning they are twice as good and should be ranked 1 and 2! The math is incontrovertible. LSU lost by nearly double, and they are just 4 spots below a team with an infinite number more wins?!

It's all a popularity contest.

The polls are meaningless. The goal of the season is to, if you are in a "power 5" conference, have less losses, preferably none, than the other teams. Nothing else matters. The polls just give the talking heads something to argue about.

SEC breaking out the voodoo dolls early this season to precipitate losses in the B10 and whatever Texas plays in.

Of course, we all know losses don't matter, as long as the right teams lose. That'll be the detriment and benefit of the 8 team playoff. But at least Texas was ranked, in Alabama's favor. The remaining card had the jobbers losing their matches.

Does OSU drop in the poll after barely getting by Notre Dame? Quite the game, and once again the Irish are their worst enemy playing not to lose as opposed to playing to win.

Barely getting by ND ???
Both teams are in the Top 10, it should be a good close game...

Did you Expect them to win handily ?
They have 3 new O Linemen and a QB thats never played a Big College game before, while ND has a QB that has 50 games in.

Fwiw, Polls mean nothing till November when the Committee polls come out...

It does give people something to talk about though ...

Edit:
Buckeyes are #3 and #4 in the 2 main polls this week
