Why even have rankings then.

Michigan and Washington I totally agree with.

AP ranked Florida State at #4 which I agree with more then Alabama.
I think has, the FSU Back up QB played very well last week .... not just managed the game and the same with this week, they would have got in.

If you watched the FSU Offense the last two weeks, you know they are not a Top 4 team without thier #1 QB.
More than likely they would have been a 10+ underdog against Michigan and probably worse against the rest in there.

Difference being, when Ohio State got in in '14, thier back ups, back up, Cardale Jones had already shown he could beat a Top team, destroying Wisconsin 59-0 and Bama that year as well.

Bama barely beat Auburn a week ago. Are they better than an undefeated FSU?

It’s all about ratings and who ESPN wants on TV.
ESPN already paid, it is about the next contract, which is to be finished next year, up after the 2025 Season.

The CFP is looking for a big increase, which ESPN might not be able to afford, time for more streaming.

The CFP has kicked off negotiations for its next broadcast cycle ahead of a planned expansion from four to 12 teams in 2026. The event is currently exclusive to ESPN, with a 12-year contract to expire after the 2025 season. The expansion of the event will likely lead to games being shown by multiple broadcasters.

ESPN still needs eyeballs. They don’t want dud games to sell to advertisers. The expanded playoff starts next year. The new contract hasn’t been finalized yet.
