Conf champs holds and should hold even more water for the play off spot. You said it yourself it should have been 8 teams and this is a good reason to get all upset over it if OSU goes and say Wisc or Penn do not cause it could very well happen!
The perfect solution was 5 conf title holders square off and 3 wild cards based on the CFP polls...solves it all.
Except we have to go by the rules that they currently use.
4 teams, not 8.

As for your insistence that Conference champs get in, thats NOT WHAT THE RULES SAY ... Period.

The 4 best teams get in ...

I'll give you something to think about ....
Bama, the #1 team for the duration of the season and we all agree about that, they go out to play Florida ...
Everybody here thinks Bama wins ...
Bama goes out and has a bad day (it happens ...) Florida beats them.
Are you gonna tell me that Florida is better than Bama and deserves to be in the Playoffs over Bama ?

Same goes for Clemson and Va Tech ... Clemson has been known to not play at thier best from time to time, just like my Buckeyes ...
Va Tech has a very good day and beats them .... now you have Florida and Va Tech in the playoffs.
Now you have a going into the weekend, number 15 and 19 in the playoffs .... is that right ?

Like I said when this started, the conferences are meaningless now. It's an even greater popularity contest now than it was before and the committee will change their mind on what criteria they want every week to get the outcome they want. They've been saying the past 2 seasons that the Conference Championships and the 13th data point are important. If that is so then if Ohio State gets in, it should be no higher than 4th and they shouldn't get in at all if Alabama, Clemson and Washington win their conference title games to remain undefeated and 1 loss teams and the Big Ten title game winner should get the 4 spot.
So, your OVERALL record means nothing ? A team with 2 losses is better than one with 1 loss ?
Ohio State is 11-1
The rest of the Big Ten including those going to the Championship game have 2.

Over all record should hold more water than your Conference record, after all that is the cumulation of your season of work. Conference record should be after over all, not the other way around.

Then get rid of the damn conferences. 11-1 don't mean squat if they didn't win their conference. So you're saying a 1 loss Ohio State is more deserving than undefeated Western Michigan? Western Michigan played 12 games and didn't slip up to an unranked opponent.

The COMMITTEE has made it a point the last 2 seasons to emphasize how important the conference championship and having that 13th game as a data point that influences their decision. If they stick to what they've said the last 2 seasons then 13-0 Alabama and 12-1 Clemson and 12-1 Washington should be the top 3. Then if Penn St wins they should definitely get in as the Big Ten champs and having the head to head over State at 11-2. If Wisconsin wins, I would give them a good chance of jumping State too based on the prior criteria.

They've screwed this up playing favorites and it's going to bite them in the butt this year. They are going to omit a conference champion, (one that possibly beat the team getting in above them) or they're going to omit a 12-1 conference champ to put a 11-2 conference champ in along with a 11-1 non conference champ (that possibly lost to that 11-2 conference champ)

No where does it say that you have to be a Conference Champ to get in the playoff ...
They did that the previous years, yes, but there was no one outside of the Conference winners that had better over all records.

The committee has no real rules, they will do whatever they want to get in who they feel, just like the BSC when they had computers choose, the computers were only giving info from the info they were inputted. They could make them say whatever they wanted.

IF Bama should somehow lose, are they not still a top 4 team ?
Should they be taken out of the playoff and Florida goes in ?

NO ....
Bama would still only have 1 loss ... They would stay in the top 4, just as OSU does.

Conferences are now a joke anyways, with the 14-16 team conferences.
Your right, Conferences shouldn't mean a damn thing anymore.

EXACTLY!!! Conf champs should be in the playoff plain and simple. Doesn't matter how it is - its how it should be considering how much a CHAMP vs CHAMP would be. Who wants a conference LOSER to be in the playoff is beyond me.
Too much nonsense placed on Strength of schedule when it was just guessing poll #'s for the first 4-5 weeks. Teams get better - teams get worse as the year goes on - depends on how healthy and how much they learn.
You really shouldn't look at polls till the very end - you select the Conf champs to play in the playoff first and then wildcards if there are slots.

Ok lets just throw a Conf LOSER into the playoff - lol funny.

YES if Bama lost to Florida then Florida would go. Bama could have a wild card if slot is available same would be said with OSU if slot available.

Till there are no Conferences that is how you should go - CHAMP vs CHAMP

Were still talking 4 team playoff here, not 8.
If Bama were to lose, that gives them 1 loss, just like everyone else, why would they drop out of the top 4 ?

Yes, a 1 loss Ohio State IS more deserving than a undefeated Western Michigan. And the one loss was against a now ranked and division champion Penn State.

Even with the loss, their resume is far superior.
Wins against Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Michigan trumps wins against Northern Illinois, Akron, Northwestern, and North Carolina Central.

Not trying to diminish the success W Mich has had, but lets not kid ourselves and say it was on an even playing field when you compare the two side by side.

I don't think GT sucks...yes they did win that game soundly no complaints there. GT is still a good team they showed up at the end of the season and did good beating Georgia and ole Shane Beamer... glad to see him losing never liked him as a coach.
We lucked up and barely beat a bad Georgia team.

Thank you ...
He doesn't understand, or want to understand that Conference Championships is a tie breaker way down the line ..... ONLY if the 2 teams are considered equals.

I do understand - its just stupid to make a conf LOSER play in a championship playoff when conf winners are not.
