2015 NCAA football discussion thread

Ole Miss looked like a #1 team to me at times last night but Alabama was sloppy, more so than its been in a while. OSU squeaked by with their win but still should be top 5. I don't compare OSU to FSU at all like everyone on ESPN is doing with how the teams they played last year to this year compare up. What it seems is happening is teams are being called out for flaws finally after 2-3 games in and the truth is showing who is really who.

I'd put TCU #1 this week followed up with Michigan St then Baylor rounding out the top 3 then perhaps OSU at #4.

ND - well I have no idea about them, they played a close game against a crappy UVA team last week but played a great game against a very good GT team yesterday. FSU is kinda looking better than they did last year as in getting better each game. Clemson and Georgia are neck and neck to me after watching their games this weekend. LSU is certainly climbing the ranks... looked good doing it too against a blind Auburn team, so I'd stick them up in the top 10 for sure.

I see playoff this year as follows.. Ole Miss, Clemson, TCU and Michigan St.

Why again does FSU get credit fro winning last year a bunch of close last second games while being #1 and OSU shouldn't ?
Fwiw, I haven't heard a word from espn guys this year as I haven't turned them on.

As for ND, they also played with a freshman QB making his first start (from right here in Toledo, Central High School !)

As for who goes in the playoffs, its way too soon to even think about it.

Who knows but its worth thinking about...for all we know OSU may end up against an ACC team in the Peach Bowl... could that be rematch against Clemson or VT?

While some people here think that the Buckeyes are going no where ... I bring the reminder that last years team started out very slow as well and picked up steam as the team jelled ... I expect the same to happen this year, teams tend to get better as the season goes, at least the good ones do, injuries aside.

Ughh, I said if we keep Coaker in there it would cost us, and well, there ya go. The kid just has no field of vision and seems rattled every time he takes the field. It is 1-3 heave, and everyone holds their breath wondering where the ball is going to go.

I had a feeling before this game that if Ole Miss stayed under 40, Bama had it, if not, we would not have the offense to keep up. While our offense outperformed theirs, we just could not overcome the turnovers, or the "Johnny Football" helmet tip pass.

Glad this was an early one though, as it sits now, two top fivers play each other, and we play two (current) top teams, so it is still wide open.
Without better QB play though, It will not matter.

I know it's early and the polls mean almost nothing at this point in the season. I'm a Notre Dame fan but I don't understand how the coaches poll can keep TCU ahead of Michigan State.

Michigan State actually proved their talent against Oregon who was #4 at the time. TCU's best opponent so far has been a somewhat weak Minnesota team and they only beat them by 6. I'm sorry but beating a top 5 team should carry more weight than beating Stephen F Austin by 63.

I think Ole Miss should be ahead of TCU for knocking out Alabama too. Again, I'm sure all of this will even out as we get deeper into the season but it just doesn't make sense to me. I don't agree with the idea that teams can't drop in the rankings without losing. Those pre-season rankings are arbitrary and should be adjusted by what we actually see play out every weekend.

TCU & moreso Baylor's plan is to keep nothing but cupcakes and themselves on their schedules in order to look good for the seeding committee (by getting "style" points against the cupcakes). Fortunately the committee saw through it last year.

Was it Ole Miss the was like 15 and went to 3 or there abouts with their win .... that's a HUGE jump for 1 win regardless of who it was.

Yeah but the only reason the jump was so big is because the people who made those polls incorrectly thought 14 teams were better than them. Like I said, these pre-season polls are arbitrary so I see no reason why some sports writers' opinions before a single snap of football was played need to be taken into consideration for this week's polls.

In my mind you should vote on who has shown the most in the actual football season after each week of play. How low a team started should have no bearing on it. TCU and Ole Miss have the exact same record but Ole Miss beat a top 5 team while TCU almost lost to the only decent competition they have played and it's not like Minnesota is a Big Ten powerhouse.

In my eyes it's clear that Michigan State and Ole Miss have both proven more in actual football than TCU has this season. They should be ranked accordingly.

Personally I think they should do like the old Harris Poll did, wait until after x number of weeks have been played.

Look at Miss St last year. They were ranked high because they beat Texas A&M who was ranked high because they had beaten South Carolina. And we saw how the season shaked out for all 3.

As it is, neither the Coaches nor AP Poll is used by the CFP panel, shown last year when the first one came out and completely disregarded both polls. Though it was funny how both polls quickly fell in line behind the CFP rankings, which really shows how much (or little) the pollsters actually follow the games.

Problem is, while the NCAA could make the Coaches Poll wait, the AP Poll is completely unrelated to the NCAA, and exists solely to drive AP readership. There's no way they're going to hold off til week x.

Looks like Jimbo wasn't the only one pissed about this....

ESPN’s College GameDay was pretty unkind to Urban Meyer this past weekend, and now Meyer’s family is returning the favor to the weekly network program.

A sign with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn’s face that read “If this crap keeps up, I’m going to fake a heart attack and go join the Big Ten” was chosen as ‘Sign of the Day’ by GameDay, which may not have been the best decision considering it was clearly poking fun at Meyer’s past health problems. Meyer cited health issues as his reason for leaving Florida following the 2010 season and, following a year working for ESPN, then filled Ohio State’s head coaching vacancy in 2012.

Meyers’ family was clearly upset with the jab the sign took at Urban and GameDay‘s decision to spotlight it. Meyer’s wife, Shelley, fired the first shot at the program’s official Twitter account.

They were not ranked either, but you don't have to be because the polls mean nothing.

Power 5 is not what I was talking about though. There are some terrible teams in the power 5 conferences. That's not the same as beating top 5 teams. Yes, I realize that I'm using the rankings to say that Alabama and Oregon were wins over top 5 teams at the time. That's really all we have to go by when talking about which wins are more impressive than others though.
