2011 NHL Off Season Moves

With the NHL draft day one in the history books, how happy are you with any of the off season moves that your team has made.

I am very happy with what the Jackets have done this off season. It was a huge deal to get Jeff Carter from Philly. Nothing like having a top center to go along with Nash on the wing. It did mean giving up Voracek and our 1st and 3rd round picks but it was a good move IMO. We needed players that would make an impact on the team this year and not continue our rebuilding (I mean building) process. Now lets get another player or two on defense and we may be able to make a run for the playoffs this coming year.

Let me know your thoughts on other moves or draft picks that have taken place already.

As usual, the Wings are having to trade down and hope they have an eye for raw talent. Over the years they have done an excellent job of developing these draft choices through their farm system.

Well the draft is now over and the next big date is July 1 when free agency is under way.

Who do you think made the biggest move this off season so far?

Is it the Jackets with the Jeff Carter deal, the LA Kings with the Mike Richards deal or the Flyers with the Carter, Richards and the Bryzgalov signing. The only team that I am not sure what to think is the Flyers with dealing two big name players. That will be some pretty big shoes to fill.

i think they got a few nice, young pieces in return. they really needed a decent netminer. but i was shocked that they traded carter and richards to free up the money.

personally, i think san jose gave up too much for brent burns.

As for Ozzie, the choice is up to the Wings and Ken Holland. (personally, I think he'd make a good coach).

Same situation as Kris Draper is in, waiting to see if the Wings have room and still want thier services, here again, I hope Draper comes back, he's one of the reliable ones, particularly in the playoffs, was very consistent at winning faceoffs.

Lindstrom, we've been saying that for a LOT of years with him, that this will be his last year , I hope he keeps playing, Chelios went to 46, while still being productive.

I am not sure why the Wings just don't lock him into a contract that will last the rest of his career. Why just sign him to a 1 year deal unless he is planning on moving elsewhere?

He's been doing 1 years contracts for many years.
IF he goes anywhere else, it will be back home.

That said, he considers Detroit as his Home now, his kids all grew up here and they enjoy it.

OK...who watched the draft Friday night? I did not reaize the hatred Minnesota Wild fans have for Vancouver.

Am I the only one who caught the fact that, when Vancouver made their selection and he was hugging his relatives and heading down to the podium, Minnesota had the song 'White Riot' blaring in the arena?

Today is the big day. Starting at Noon begin the NHL free agency period. I sure hope that the Jackets keep up the good work so far and make a big splash into the free agent pool.

Word is that the Rangers are favorites for Brad Richards, even if they don't offer the biggest contract. There is always the possibility, however, that a team like Buffalo (or a team that needs to get to the cap floor) will blow Richards away with $10M per year or something.

Yesterday was a good and bad day for the Pens.

The good...They resigned Kennedy and they didn't sign Jagr

The Bad...They lost Rupp and Talbot.

They sign Sullivan, I don't know anything about this guy.
