Incredible! I just noticed Avila hit a 2-run HR and the Tigers scored 3-runs in the top of the 9th to tie the Sox 5-5. Go Tigers!

They are on fire, white sox manager had some bad pithily strategy in the 9th

Me too, unless JV is pitching, then I'll attempt to do a Red Wings pre sleep night so I can get up and watch !

Unless Leyland gives him another day off, Verlander is scheduled to pitch Sunday afternoon in Oakland. I doubt Leyland will change the rotation because Verlander is currently on schedule to pitch the opening game in the playoffs...and he certainly doesn't neet to pitch in the final home series against the Indians.

The only questions (in my mind) are if Fister will be moved to the #2 slot behind Verlander (in which case they may need to have Cone start in the rotation) or go with Scherzer in the #2 slot. To be honest, I would rather keep Max sandwiched between Verlander and Fister because Scherzer and Porcello have not been consistent this year and I don't think we can afford to back-to-back poor pitching performances. Also, does Penny get dumped into bullpen purgatory for the playoffs? I say YES and Leyland has no choice if he hopes to make it back to the World Series.

They were discussing that very thing in the paper today, Penny to the pen ....
I like the idea of JV, Scherzer, Fister and Porcello ... however, I would expect JV to pitch twice in a 5 game series (which works out that way) and 3 times in a 7 game series, (which does NOT work out with a 4 man rotation), here, Porcello to the pen ...

Once they clinch the playoffs, probably by the end of the weekend, they can do whatever they want with the rotation, I really have no worries about JV getting rest or having to pitch the last game of the year (they mentioned yesterday that he was slated to pitch the last game against the Indians, but I would bet they pitch Jacob Turner a few times and give others an extra day off.

After tonight the Tigers will be 2 full games ahead of Texas for the #2 postion. Do they battled for the #2 spot (and home field playoff advantage) or do they focus on resting the pitching staff?

Both....

They don't have to just QUIT PLAYING players to rest them.
Avilla needs like a week off, maybe Pinch Hit him from time to time.
Cabrera could use a few days off.
Martinez and Peralta as well, other than that, they don't need to give players much time off.

Who's overworked, they only play 3-4 hours a day.
I can understand the Catchers, but everyone else has had playing time limited, you know Leyland doesn't go with a set line up (which annoys me to no end.) He gives players time off all the time.

At midnight in Detroit ....

Actually Thursday and Friday are 10:05 starts.
The weekend games are at 4:05

I wont watch these late games either except for the day they have a chance to clinch the division. I need to figure out when that is because I don't want to miss that.

Edit: I just looked at the records. If the White Sox won every game for the rest of the season and the Tigers lost every game they would tie so we only need 1 more win to knock the Sox out.

If the Indians won every game and we lost every game they would beat us by 1 so we need to win 2 more games to knock out the Indians. They could possibly clench the division tomorrow.

They could clinch tonight.... Magic Number is 2 at the moment.

ahh duh that makes sense. If Cleveland loses and we win it's over. Looks like I'm gonna be staying up tonight after all. Thanks for correcting me because I would have been upset if I watched all season like this and then missed the celebration.

I'm busy trying to plan how I get away from work and swing up to MI and catch a Michigan game along with the Tigers in the playoffs.

Playoff tickets sold out for the ALDS very quickly. I was trying to get some and waited in the virtual line on the website for about 3 hours the day they went on sale for them and all 3 home ALDS tickets were sold out before it was my turn. I logged in right at 10:00 AM when they went on sale. There were more tickets available but not the general 1 game tickets. You had to put a deposit down for season tickets for next year to get anything that was left.

You're only hope at this point would be stubhub or a scalper outside Comerica. Either way will probably be pretty pricey.

I have a large family and I'm the lovable prodigal son. :) My brothers and cousins are season Tigers ticket holders so I'm sure dozens of playoff tickets have already been purchased. However I do have a large extended family so it's just a matter of checking schedules, calling-in favors, bartering or even begging. My Dad and Uncle have been UM season tickets holders since the '70s. Dad only attends a game or two each year (health reasons) and my Uncle flies in from FL (usually on short notice) but only uses half of his tickets even with business travel. It looks like I may have to barter some Nebraska and/or Ohio State tickets. Regardless, I do not participate in buying or selling tickets at more than face value.

Yep. I will be staying up again tonight. The only problem now is that the Indians could lose before our game even starts and it would be over. That would sure put a damper on the celebration. I hope Cleveland wins so we can end it the right way. I want us to clinch because we won not because they lost.

Either way it will be our first ever AL Central championship and the playoffs should be great.

For those that are having baseball withdrawls...
