2011 AL Central Thread

Wasn't Cuddyer playing there last year when Moreno went down ?
I thought it was a no brainer to play him there ....

Yeah he's played at 1st the last 2 years when Morneau went down. But he has also played 2B and 3B. The whole thing is when Kubel comes back from the DL you want to get him, Thome, Mauer and Cuddyer in the game.
Common sense is Thome at DH, Mauer catching, Cuddy at 1st and Kubel in Right...but they also want Mauer to play more but they cant DH him all the time when he doesnt catch. This way they have flexibility with 1B, RF & DH. Thome dont play the field so make him DH. Mauer at 1st once in a while. Put Kubel in RF and Cuddy at 2B :)

Its scary when you look at our infield and the "big bopper" is Valencia at 3rd.

I wonder if Dombrowski and the Tigers are serious about trying to get Reyes ?

After watching him in Comerica park, I'm sure the asking price went up drastically this week.

Maybe they can fool the Marlins again and get Hanley... How's that trade for Cabrera looking NOW Loria?

Delusional. Reyes is not coming here. We have nothing to offer for what amounts to a rental. As I said already. The tigers have no money. Sure they may go get an arm or a utility bat that can hit a little but thats it. What you see is what your stuck with. Sorry.

The trade for Cabrera is looking very good ... Thank You ! :D
However the OTHER half of that trade isn't doing so well .... (Dontrelle).

Don't need a malcontent Hanley on this team .... sounds like a headache waiting to happen to me.

Thank you Mr. Illitch adviser ....

Update from Wahoo Land

The Tribe has been struggling over the last 6 weeks, yet still head into July with a share of the AL Central lead. I'll take it. A product to our strong start, we are hanging on for now, but this team needs to get it's players healthy (Choo out for 8-10 weeks), and snap out of this slump! They've done better. They're capable of better. An All-Star break may do this team good. One more three game road trip of interleague play (CIN) before we're done for the year. Thank God!!

Hopefully Verlander, the best pitcher in baseball this year, can finally keep the Mets under two touchdowns today.

Although not his best performance, Verlander allowed 1 ER through 7 complete innings. Tigers win and Verlander picks up his 11th win.

Cool. Now the Mets play the Yankees and miss Burnett and CC in the rotation, so the touchdowns may return!

The most obvious need in the Tigers lineup---the one that sticks-out like a sore thumb---is finding a competent starting pitcher to replace Phil Coke. This guy is killing us!!!

As of today they are sending him back to the pen. Charlie Furbush is going to trade places with him. I'm ok with giving him a shot. He was a starter in the minors and he is a lefty so we will still have the same amount of lefties in the rotation and the pen.

Flat Phil Coke moved by Detroit Tigers from rotation to 'pen - ESPN

Cool...but I say send him to the Pokey. Better yet, wish him away to the cornfield.

I'm not as harsh as you are, he was a VERY good guy out of the pen, then they tried to make him a Starter..... not sure if that was Cokes doing or the Tigers that started it, maybe both.

However, Furbush has been a Starter all along and pitched very well this season in Toledo, came up to the Tigers and has been in the pen ever since, long relief.
No roster moves needed as Furbush is already here.

As for Coke, IF he still struggles once he's in the pen, THEN we need to do something.

We've probably given up 5 wins with Coke on the mound .... Same thing they did with Dontrelle, had they took him out of the rotation we would have WON the division that year.

It's called reality man. The big spending days are over. The payroll has consistency dropped. Hell they don't even have a payroll in the top 2 in the central. Half the payroll is tied up in 3 players. They lost what 30 million or more last year? While I understand your a tiger slapy and you get very defensive when the truth is spoken, the bottom line is. This is what we have. If your looking for a big deal for an expensive player it ain't happening. Call me what you want but not gonna happen and as I said thoughts of Reyes are delusional. He's a free agent and getting Crawford money. You think the tigers are paying him more than Cabrera? Nope!!!!!!!
