2011 AL Central Thread

Pitching duel going on over here. I'm not a big duan fan of the stadium (OK, I really don't like it) but it's hard to find fault with an afternoon game.

I don't know why but Sprint Mobile reception sucks in this area..

Awesome. That .200 average should be a huge boost.

I never said it was a huge welcome! :) To be honest, Inge's glove and $2 will get him a cup of coffee. Right now we're in at war in the AL Central and would appreciate if Mr. Inge would show up to the fight swinging a bat. As Frank Barone (Peter Boyle) once stated during an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, "I may not make it to the plate very often, but when I do...you gotta bring a bat."

I try not to worry about what everyone else is doing...although I noticed the red-hot Twins lost. We just need to keep winning. Hmmm. I wonder if go with a Cokeless 4 pitcher rotation...

I've been yelling for a 4 man rotation since the 4 man rotation left .....

Some teams have actually gone to a 6 man rotation. UGH

If he hit .260 over the next month it will be an improvement over what he left as.

Ugh is right! I would be quite happy with a five man rotation consisting of Mickey Lolich, Joe Coleman, Joe Niekro, Woody Fryman and, oh, Justin Verlander. :)

What about Milt Wilcox, Dave Rozema and Mark "The Bird" Fidrych? :D

On a side note, when I attended my first ever game at Fenway Park, the Tigers were the opponent and Joe Coleman was the starting pitcher. :)

Whats your guys thoughts on the Tigers Verlander not getting a chance to pitch in the All Star game if selected ?

All-Star Game action not in cards for Tigers' Justin Verlander

Los Angeles— It's still early, of course. A baseball season that already has seen more than its share of rainouts and pitching disruptions could see a few more between now and when the All-Star Game is played July 12 at Arizona.

But if the Tigers' pitching rotation sticks to its every-fifth-day routine, Justin Verlander's chances at starting, or even pitching, in this year's All-Star classic, are all but gone.

Verlander will take his normal turn Saturday against the Diamondbacks turn. If the rotation follows script, he also would pitch July 5 and July 10. That would eliminate any chance at him pitching in the All-Star Game — not only because of the Tigers' concerns, but because Major League Baseball has a rule against pitching on two days' rest.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland acknowledged this week that Verlander, who has been beyond overpowering in 2011, might miss a showcase event. But the Tigers come first.

"I'd have a hard time explaining to our owner why I kept him from pitching (a scheduled start) in order to pitch two innings in the All-Star Game," Leyland said. "I hope that he gets whatever rewards come his way. It's just that we can't run our ballclub for anybody pitching one or two innings."

Then again, 21/2 weeks is a long time to plan on anything, especially during a year when a manager's schedule has been no match for Mother Nature.

All the pitchers I mentioned ('cept one) were on the same rotation...else, I would certainly toss in '68 Denny McLain. :)
