2011 AL Central Thread

Tigers off to a good start and Verlander is pitching well, as usual. Twins and S.D. tied up in the 8th.

Tigers and Verlander win today.

Indians were tied with the Pirates in the 8th and had about a 2 hour rain delay ..... Indians pulled it out in the 11 with a 5-2 win.

Tigers move on to LA, unfortunately LATE starts on the left coast.
While Cleveland gets the Rockies, unfortunately it's at home.

Justin Verlander threw his second consecutive complete game giving him four on the season, tied for the second-most in the majors. It's his 11th complete game since 2009, third-most among all pitchers during that span.

Verlander shut down the Colorado Rockies on Sunday using his fastball and curveball more than usual. Eleven of his 13 outs with two strikes came on those two pitches, including four of his five strikeouts.

He excelled by finishing batters off when he had them down in the count. Verlander took 14 hitters to a two-strike count and didn't allow a hit or walk anyone. It was his first start this season in which he didn't allow a hit or walk a batter after going to two strikes.

Through 15 starts Verlander has a 0.85 WHIP, best in the majors among starters. In the Divisional Era only three times has a starter finished a season with a sub-0.90 ERA with 15 or more starts in a season. Each of the three times that pitcher went on to win the Cy Young award (2000 Pedro Martinez, 1994-95 Greg Maddux).

If they go with the realignment rumors that supposedly the players back, with 15 teams in each league there would be interleague games all season long...

way too soon to tell what they are going to do...

I hate the idea actually, it eliminates 6 division championships that usually go to the end of the season and keep a bunch of teams fans interested.
The new way, it will be like the NHL, only interested in the last few teams chasing the last few spots.

Again, it depends on which version you are hearing. The one that I read would have three 5-team divisions and 2 wildcards in each league, with the top overall team in each league having a bye.

Ya, I was referring to the 2, 15 team divisions ....

3-5 team divisions in each league your saying ?
Thats not much different than it is now.

Personally, I would like to see an American League and National League consisting of 15-teams. The winner of each League goes directly to the World Series and all others (teams 2-15)...well, "No Soup for You!" :)

Well, we had close to that in earlier years, AL East and West and NL East and West, that was it, those two top teams played for the right to go to the WS.
I'm sure you remember that.

For those that are having baseball withdrawls...
