Wow. Amazing how much money was lost by staying in school 1 extra year....

No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton is slated to get roughly $22 million over the next four years. For comparison’s sake, last year’s top pick Sam Bradford got $50 million guaranteed and $72 million over his first six years.
But, 2010 was Newton's breakout year. He really didn't stay an extra year....

There's no such thing anymore as far as I'm aware, you have to spend it. Drew Brees even cited the Chiefs in one of his emails that was leaked yesterday as only actually spending 67% of the cap in 2009 because of all the dead money on their books from cut players.

Now teams have to spend an average of 89% over a few years, then the same percent over the remainder of the CBA. For example if you spend 99% one year you could spend 85% the next and the 3rd would be dictated by whatever it takes for the average cash expenditure to hit 89% for those years. This is off the top of my head so a couple of % may be off, but you get the gist.

10 year, no opt out for either side, good stuff.

Thanks msteveo.

But the article salsadancer posted that stated it was possible that the dead cap space would go away and the Raiders would be able to sign Asomugha. But last night ESPN said that the Raiders were the largest over the cap of any team...so apparently that's not the case, and everything still counts against the cap?

Thanks!

They are over the cap, that is IF the Raiders do not get rid of the players need TO get under the cap. The Raiders have players they will release and not resign.

So the dead cap dollars did not go away?

Sandra

I don't think so. I have yet to read some of that fine print because it is not out yet. There is still some weird crap about dead cap dollars, when FA can sign, when they can practice...it is still very confusing at this moment. This morning they a few agent on 790 The Ticket and they had a hard time trying to get the scope of the dead cap and things like that because though the players have agreed with the new CBA, it has not be ratified.

EXCELLENT listing of the 100 best free agents available. The the dreaming begin! LOL!

2011 NFL free agent tracker - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

For my Raiders, the #1 priority is Zack Miller. Then it's Michael Bush and Nnamdi. The are a number of Raiders that will be let go, with the post link by Cosmo(thanks Cos!), the Raiders will be to release the top button on the shirt.(Whew!)

Zack Miller is higher than Nnamdi?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just heard the Steelers have $116 million on the books. This is before trying to resign all of their free agents including L'amar Woodley. The cap is at $120 million. Doesn't leave much wiggle room for the Stools. Hehehe!!!

Prepare yourself for the "Rooney Exception ".

There's a difference between dead money and cap penalties, the difference is dead money was money that counted towards the cap but would never end up being spent, cap penalties are still paid out (like Jake Delhomme making more money from Carolina than from the Browns last season).

The big change with this CBA is the cash has to be spent.

From Trey Wingo about teams current cap status:
Cincy 34.8 mil under, Chi 34.5 mil under, Carolina 29.7 mil under..Chiefs 30.3 million under

Mike Brown is the cheapest s.o.b. in the NFL.

Yeah, I wouldn't take the team that thought Jay Cutler would lead them to the promise land over the guy that helped put together the Patriots dynasty (Scott Pioli) ;)

NFL announced today that the Chargers-Cowboys game that had been scheduled for Saturday, August 20 had been moved to Sunday, August 21 at 8 PM ET. The game will be broadcast nationally by NBC, which had been scheduled to show the Hall of Fame Game.
