Because the play was over as soon as the possessed football broke the plane. A ball being flung through the air at someone is possessed by nobody, and rules dictate exactly what must be done to establish possession (2 feet, perform a football move, complete the act of the catch if going to the ground, etc)

dont forget smiling at the camera and putting the ball back on the 3 yard line when finished

Once the player catches the ball and has two feet inbounds the play SHOULD be over, but it's NOT anymore, thanks to some wild idea that the NFL came up with a few years ago.

I don't even know why they changed the rule.

The Lions lost a game last year in which Calvin Johnson clearly went high to catch, came down with the ball, rolled to the ground and got back up and they called it no catch and the Lions lost to the Bears on that play, or lack of play called correctly.

Btw, AFTER the season the NFL said Yes it should have been a TD.
I would imagine they will tell the Lions the same thing this off season.

Fwiw, the Lions lost today by 4 points, the difference in that play being 7 or 3.

Which also sent them to play NEW ORLEANS instead of Dallas or NYG.
Not saying they would beat either, but they would have a much better chance.

IF the Lions should knock NO out next week, the NFL will be the ones to say, OH, how did we lose a TOP team so quickly.

I was going to use that same example. Didnt the refs say after his butt hit the ground (with the catch and two feet down) he used the football to prop himself up to celebrate and they said no catch.

Yup, but according to the rule, once his two feet are in and his BUTT hits before the ball, it should have completed a Football act.

Never knew his butt could be so important !

The move could be announced as early as Monday and no later than Tuesday.Spagnuolo was just 10-38 in three seasons in St. Louis. The Rams lost 34-27 to the rival 49ers on Sunday to finish the season 2-14, tied with the Indianapolis Colts for the worst record in the NFL.The lowly mark was an even bigger embarrassment considering it followed a six-win improvement last season. Attendance at Sunday's regular-season finale was announced as 55,990, about 9,000 shy of capacity at the Edward Jones Dome, but the stadium appeared no better than half-full and drained quickly in the second half.Spagnuolo still talked optimistically about offseason plans after Sunday's loss and never fretted that this could have been his final game."I don't go there. I think you know me well enough," Spagnuolo said. "In the middle of that game, in the fourth quarter as exciting as it was? Nah."

I'll tell you what, Giants win, they dont have to leave there stadium. They would have been home for what, 4 or 5 weeks in a row? To me, thats a big advantage.

Thats too bad for Spags. Imagine if he goes back to the Giants with the way the Giants D is playing tonight? I think he will go to either the Giants or Eagles.

I think we can add Jason Garrett to the Black Monday (or Tuesday) list.

Bill, I dont think Garrett goes. Ryan may go but Jerry Jones said that Garrett was his guy. Btw, did you see the shot of Jones in the pressbox? It looks like he was going to cry.

Well the Vikes are the only team right now that dont have a home...the lease at the humpty dome is done after today
