Would have been ruled incomplete, watch the play again, its bobbled while out of bounds, he loses his grip with both hands and it slips out if his hands before he grips it again.

Rule is blah, but correct call.

What you described is where everyone stopped paying attention. He went to the ground and when he hit the ground the ball slipped from his chest to his stomach, and he had to regrip it towards the tip. It would have been incomplete as he didn't not maintain possession throughout the process of the catch. You can do that in the field of play... but not out of bounds.

Obviously much better view of it on Youtube/elsewhere.

Also, you may want to catch up on the thread and read rocky's warning about language.

The Palmer trade was a necessity. The rest, you are correct. They more than likely had more injuries to more starters than any team in the entire NFL. THAT alot on their depth.

Steelers would give them a run for thier money , I don't think they have started thier Statrting O line all year.

Btw, Mendenhaul went out today, doesn't look good, said serious knee injury.

Redman came in to finish the game (2nd half), he's typically the short yardage back and he did well for awhile, then fumbled and lost it, two consecutive series .

John Clay out of Wisconsin will get plenty of practice this week with the 1st team.

The NFL REALLY needs to re examine thier rules for complete catches, its ridiculous.

Lets go back to having the ball and 2 feet inbounds, they way it had been for the previous 75 years.
This having to have it all the way to the locker room is stupid.

exactly. I've said it numerous times....you are a RB and you run into the pile, somehow cross the goal line, get pushed back 5 yards and fumble,.....nope dead play and you get a TD because the tip of the football crossed the goal line so its a TD regardless of what happened after

yet the WR/TE whoever catches the ball has to catch it, keep both feet in bounds, keep possession, smile at the camera, then after the TD is called you have to go out and place the ball on the 3 yard line for the PAT or it doesnt count

I agree. Until now I thought that as long as the ball didn't touch the ground while moving that it was a catch.didn't matter if it moved from the chest to the stomach as long as you were still holding it and no contact was made between the ball and the ground. I don't know anymore :/

Thats what it was till about 5 years ago ...

The runner already has possession, the WR/TE does not, is the HUGE difference between your examples.

I think it's a funky rule myself, I don't think that means they should start calling it different halfway through a game week 17.

I agree. If you ever see some of the catches. I mean it seems like most catches are not because "they dont have control of the ball". I say when the ball is your hands, you have control of the ball.

What you describe IS a catch. It's not a catch if you lose possession while laying out of bounds. You have to establish possession and then maintain it while going to the ground. If you're in the field of play, lose control, and it never touches the ground that's fine. If you catch it, tap 2 feet as you fall or are shoved out of bounds and then lose control you have no opportunity to posses the ball at that point because you've exited the field of play.

no it isn't. If the WR catches the ball and has 2 feet in the end zone it should be a TD
Great example a couple weeks ago in the Vikes game. Gerhart (RB) fell down and fumbled the ball in the end zone. But since the ball had crossed the plain it was a TD...even though the only part of anything that crossed the plain was the edge of the ball. As soon as the ball hit "the ground" it was a fumble. But since the ball crossed the plain it was a TD

Because the play was over as soon as the possessed football broke the plane. A ball being flung through the air at someone is possessed by nobody, and rules dictate exactly what must be done to establish possession (2 feet, perform a football move, complete the act of the catch if going to the ground, etc)

No, but they never should have changed the rule in the first place.
