It was a call made by the ref. Charles Woodson's punch to the side of the head(overlooked of course by the tuck rule fanatics), was worse than what Hamilton did to Stabler.

NFL Top Ten Controversial Calls #7 1976 AFC Wildcard - YouTube

I don't know why the video called it a "Wild Card" game, it was a Divsional Playoff Game . Pats were 11-3 and the Raiders were 13-1 (their only loss was 48-17 to the Patriots). Back then their were no byes or Wild Card Round.

SO did they call roughing for the smack up side the head to Stabler...because you can clearly see that. IS that what you are implying?

I started watching the show at #5 or so. The Lynn Swann penalty, then the call against call against the Giants in the playoffs. Did not see the previous 5 and one person on the show mentioned that the Raiders were involved in 4 of the top 10. Nothing more and nothing less.

The "tuck rule fanatics" are willing to be they paycheck that IF the call would have been made against the OTHER team involved with the tuck rule, ESPECIALLY in a playoff game, they TOO would still be mad as hell.

....and anyone who denies that I will call them a liar in their face...

From Braylon Edwards on Twitter: "I was released today by the 49ers due to my injury that required more time to rehab and hasn’t allowed me to re-sync with the offense...."

Hmmm. Sounds like stonehands has more excuses.

The Patriots and Raiders don't meet each other on a regular basis, but when you think about it they have been involved in some memorable/controversial games

-1976 regular season: Pats beat the Raiders 48-17 in Foxboro. If not for this game, the Raiders would have been a perfect 17-0 after they won their Super Bowl (BTW, this was the first NFL game yours truly ever attended)

-1976 divisional playoffs: Raiders defeat the Pats 24-21 when Stabler scores with :10 left after a controversial RTP penalty. Raiders go on to win their first Super Bowl.

-1978 preseason: two names- Jack Tatum and Darryl Stingley

-1985 divisional playoffs: Pats upset the #1 seed Raiders 27-20 at the LA Coliseum after the Raiders fumble a kickoff in their own end zone. After the game, the Raiders Matt Millen punches Pats GM Patrick Sullivan (IMO, something that Sullivan deserved)

-2001 divisional playoffs: Pats defeat the Raiders 16-13 in OT, after the very controversial tuck rule call gives the Pats the ball back. Patriots go on to win their first Super Bowl

Funny how the Pats have thrived to become the NEW 'give us your misfits, we'll find a way to put good use to them' team. Something the Raiders were notorious for doing in the 70s and 80s.

During Braylon Edwards time with the Niners, he made $1.6 million. In that same time, he caught 15 balls. NOT a good return on their investment. Wow!

Yep, and some have worked out (Corey Dillon, Rodney Harrison, Randy Moss) and some haven't (Haynesworth, Ochocinco).

Dalton deserves it if he takes his team to the playoffs, but Newton breaking Manning's records could take it.

Maybe start a thread for the yearly award discussion?

Aldon Smith / Von Miller will be a close one for DROY.

Definitely it should go to Dalton. Yards alone should not get you an award like that.

If Brees is under consideration then Brady is too, since it almost certainly wont go to 3 people I expect Rodgers to be MVP, and Brees and Brady may share offensive POY.

Exactly... I don't know how you could consider Brees and not Brady. The Patriots have the best record in the AFC, with statistically the worst defense in the NFL, a patchwork offensive line, and no deep threat to speak of. Hmm, wonder how they got to 12-3?

All that said, I do believe Discount Double Check should be the MVP.

While I agree, he's broken other records as well, like rushing TDs by a QB with 14. He's responsible for 34 touchdowns his rookie season, and could break 4000 yards next week through the air, and will probably end up short of almost 5000 yards from scrimmage. It's been an incredible individual effort that is not reflected by his team's record.

I'd give it to Dalton, but wouldn't be surprised if Cam Newton got it because it's just not a good offensive performance, it's an amazing one that he almost certainly can't be expected to beat.

Only LeSean McCoy has more TDs on the ground than Newton, and he has more yards rushing than a handful of teams starting RBs (ranked 26th at 674 yards, just behind his own starting RB).

It will depend on what a voter is judging them by. If it's in a bubble and based on offensive performance, then it's Newton - and by a wide margin. If it's leading their team to improve, it will go to Dalton.
