2010 NBA Playoffs

ESPN is disgusting!!

They keep showing an empty chair in the press room and saying "we're waiting to hear from LeBron"...........
thats funny. LOL

But really I think everyone is being too hard on him. He was injured and played like it and number 2 he showed maturity and sportsmanship by shaking hands afterwards. Something he didnt show last year.

Hope Lebron makes his choice soon....Long summer of ESPN playing where's Lebron, kind of like NFL Networks version of Wheres Brett....

My two cents, I think it would be nice if he stays with the Cavs, but who knows...

Two reasons why this game went the way it went: turnovers and missed free throws.

That was a big reason, you're right. LeBron had another 9 turnovers last night and 27 for the series! This is uncharacteristic for a player who's arguably greatest skill is his ball handling/passing ability. LeBron played extremely sloppy this series.

With that said, take nothing away from the Celtics. They proved to be the better team in this series. Whether they got healthy or clicked at the right time, there's one thing certain about this Celtics team: they know how to win in the playoffs!

For all the hype the regular season gets, the playoffs are a whole different animal. Last night, the Celtics served the Cavs another dish of humble pie.

The Morning After. An All Too Familiar Feeling....

Today, Cleveland mourns another sports letdown. An unfortunate all too familiar feeling.

Last night, as the Cavs season was on the brink, strong men cried. Rosaries were fondled. A cold wind blew across the land, and in Beachwood, old rabbis climbed mournfully to their rooftops and sounded their shofars. Wild beasts howled. The joint chiefs nodded gravely to each other and set the country at DEFCON 1. Elton John wrote a song. Shaker Heights hummed with the murmured supplications of its people, and the Cuyahoga burned anew. A vast rending of garments overtook Eastern Europe. In India, Maoist rebels lay down their arms. LeBron James had failed to take the Cavs to the promise land. Somewhere, a child lost hope.

It's easy to be a Celtics or Lakers fan, but I'm a Cleveland fan and one of these days it will be worth it......

THIS child lost hope last night. You seem to be taking it OK, HD. It's worse this morning for me than it was last night.

Yeah, my last post was meant to inject some humor on the subject. Humor (and booze) helps us keep our sanity. Without either, I don't know how I'd survive in this city. :)

As for my disappointment, I had my meltdown after Game 5. It was after than game I basically accepted our fate. This team just looked out of sorts the entire series. I'm done mourning them. Am I pissed? Sure. I'm mad as hell, but the only thing left do do is sit and wait 49 more days to find out the fate of LeBron and our franchise. If he choses to stay, there's more hope for next year. If not, well, it will be a sad, sad day for this franchise.

My impertinent thoughts:

First, the victors, because they earned it.

1. Well-played, Celtics. Not sure how much I buy the 'Celtics were playing possum, saving it for the playoffs' theory. You can say that about the Spurs as well, and look what happened to them. The Heat series was closer than it looked too.

2. Those of you bashing Rasheed early owe him an apology. 'Ball Don't Lie' dude came up with some big shots and big plays late.

3. Tough defense by Boston all around. Wow.

4. The Celtics started playing the clock game too early. They had something like 4-5 possessions in a row, when they were up around 10 points or so with under five minutes left, where they held the ball until the shot clock hit five, then settled for a long contested jumper. That could have cost them, but it didn't.

5. New York Knicks? New York Knicks? Is that really what Celtic fans want? Probably just trying to annoy Cleveland fans but still...that sounded strange!

6. Big Baby is a piece of work.

Now, the Clevelands...

1. I'm sorry, but Lebron did not leave it all on the court last night. That was not a superstar effort.

2. In fact, it's difficult to put Lebron's game last night into words. Inexplicable. How can a guy, in a career-defining game, play so...what's the word...distracted? Especially when he knows he was criticized for exactly that just two night ago!

3. How many times did he get the ball and immediately throw it to a teammate (sometimes completing the pass)? How many times did he have a chance to shoot the three and not shoot it? How many times did he fumble the ball? There has to be something physically wrong...if the problem is between his ears, that's worse.

4. How many times did the announcers say 'Time for Lebron James to attack'...and he didn't?

5. I've been the one here saying give Lebron time to measure up to what Michael Jordan did over a career. Based on what we've seen in previous playoff games, Jordan-like (or even Magic-like or Bird-like) performances in big spots were in Lebron's toolbox. Now I'm not so sure.

6. I've also been the one saying Lebron not sticking around for handshakes after being eliminated last year was no big deal. But last night was worse. Why on earth did Lebron feel the need to remove his Cleveland uniform the second he left the court? He knew he was on camera, and he knew what that would symbolize...rightly or wrongly...to a lot of Cleveland fans. Not well-played at all.

Like I posted the other day, I would almost buy into the 'possum' theory IF it wasn't for that 29 point, game three pounding!

I owe him NADA!! If anything, he owes ticket holders a refund for DOGGING it most of the season! So he had a productive second half..........he should be doing that and MORE!

3. Tough defense by Boston all around. Wow.

The way the C's are playing defense reminds of the Finals in '08 against the Lakers

TOTALLY agree!!! They stopped attacking, and it was really ticking me off!

5. New York Knicks? New York Knicks? Is that really what Celtic fans want?

As a Celtics fan that's been in the arena several times, that was an embarressment! You REALLY want LeBron to play for your division rival 180 miles to the South???

6. Big Baby is a piece of work.

He is, but I love the guy!! :D

IMO, he's hurt more than he's letting on...........

I agree he looked distracted, but I think a lot of factors were at play

NOBODY is a bigger Bird fan than me (my favorite all time athlete.....#2 is in another stratosphere), BUT Bird had McHale and Parish. Magic had Kareem and Worthy. MJ had Pippen and Grant. LeBron has no one CLOSE to those guys............

I agree............that had me shaking my head. It was almost like he was saying..."screw everybody"

Not to take anything away from Boston, but I completely agree. I've been criticizing LeBron this entire series. It's been an unpopular stance, being I'm a die-hard Cav fan and all, but I don't see how it can be ignored.

The LeBron that played in this series was not the same LeBron I've known the the last 10 years and I know him well. Probably more so than the talking heads of major sporting networks, I've seen LeBron grow up before my eyes, play in hundreds of games of varying importance and he's never gone out with a whimper. NEVER. The other side will use his triple double as a counter, where I will say it was probably the most infective triple double of his career. And to add to that, he was 1 turnover (9) away from the dreaded quadruple double.

LeBron never dribbles the ball off his feet. His passes are usually spot on. His accuracy is uncanny. Throughout this series it looked like the 7'2" awkward Zydrunas Ilgauskas could've handled the ball better. He had nearly 30 turnovers in 6 games! This from a player who set an all-time record, besting Larry Bird this year for average assists per game. This from someone who's been labeled a better passer than Magic Johnson. Clearly something was wrong. But what was it?

I've come to the conclusion it was one of two things.

1. He really is injured. To his credit, he isn't using this an excuse, but as Sandra says, the look in his eyes, the disinterest at times, the "loopiness" just made me wonder. Was he on some sort of pain medication?

2. Or was he distracted? Was their an internal locker room rift? Did a veteran (Shaq) call him out? Does he already have one foot out the door? He was clearly distracted, by what I don't know. My guess is that we'll find out real soon when medical reports are revealed or free agency comes.

The lack of passion/anger/frustration displayed by LBJ during this series when things weren't going the Cavs way leads me to believe it's more of #2. When limited with an injury, you can still try to inspire and rally your teammates...

I am now convinced he is going to Chicago....IF he leaves. I also came to realize...as much as I dislike him, the 2nd best player on the Cavs was Anderson. The rest were WAY too inconsistant. I think last night, IF decided he was gone. IF that SAME team comes back, and ALL the same layers stay for the playoffs....you would get the EXACT same result.

The Bulls will make a heavy chase. You have a Anderson is clone in Noah, ONE of the top players in the league in Rose...makes Deng and Hinrich expendable....perfect for a sign a trade to Toronto for Bosh. There there the issues of a coach....guess who DOES NOT have a contract to coach next year....Phil Jackson. Everything is set up for Chicago.

...so, if there is ONE PLACE he is going IF....IF he leaves...there is the place.

If LeBron is having issues in the spotlight now, when the game matters most, I can only imagine what it'd be like having to pass a statue of Michael Jordan every day on the way to work.

Chicago is the new chic destination ESPN is now predicting, but I still say he stays. He has unfinished business. If he leaves now, it says a lot about his character and further reinforces those who say he didn't give his all or (and I use this term lightly), "quit".

I think there was more to his imjury that we were led to believe, and to his credit...he still played.

To say he did not leave it out on the court is ridiculous. Are you folks THAT spoiled to think 27 points, 18 rebounds and 9 assists is an OFF NIGHT?! REALLY??!! SERIOUSLY?! IF had not seen the game and did not know the score and they told you LBJ had THAT kinda of night, you would have said, 'damn, that is one hell of a game!'

....Please, 'didn't leave it on the floor' ....

I think he and alot of the players lost ALL confidence in Mike Brown. Here is the team down by 9 with less than 90 seconds left in the game....Brown SCREAMING to foul...and no one even looked at the bench and they paid absolutely NO ATTENTION to him whats so ever. IF LBJ comes back.....Brown will NOT.

He has already announced his number change for next season. ;)
