2010 NBA Playoffs

That's a very interesting question!!

IMO, you have to give extra points for a player that plays their whole career there (not that it's an end all be all, but more of an everything being equal type thing).

That being said, here's MY top 5 Lakers of all time:

1. Magic
2. Jerry West
3. Kareem
4. Kobe
5. Eljin Baylor
I don't know if West can go ahead of Kobe now because of Kobe passing him for all-time leading Lakers scorer. It really is a tough decision, if I was ever put on the spot to do a top 5 all time Lakers players, I probably wouldn't be able to do it.

Lakers are playing like trash

I remember when the Celtics were giving Pierce his "max" contract, thinking that he might or might not be one of the 50 most desirable players if the league were to just have one current draft. That is not to say he is not outstanding, but the NBA is a league of stars, and I could name at least one person on nearly all of the other 29 teams that I would rather have, several teams had two, and a couple of teams had three. Was Pierce a more desirable player than any of Washington's "Big Three" of Jameson, Butler and Arenas were considered to have been at the start of this season?

What is his free throw percentage at the end of close, important games? What was his playoff record for his first decade in the league?

Still, he might sneak into a Celtics top ten list because the Celtics played more team ball than did the teams they beat. Havlicek scored about 20 points a game when he was on the teams with Sam Jones and Bill Russell, but as soon as they retired, his scoring average leaped up to where it would have been if his primary objective was scoring. Paul Westphal could never get the opportunity to produce as a Celtic, but he left to become a better playoff player than Paul Pierce has been.

Dave Cowens was one of the most amazing players I have ever seen live. If you never saw him play live, then you never saw him play. The guy ran up and down the court like a madman for forty minutes a game, absolutely bowling over anyone and everyone in his way. I put him way ahead of Pierce. Parish, too. I'd place Pierce only slightly ahead of Reggie Lewis and JoJo White.

Like I said.. its gonna be hard for the Lakers to repeat LOL.

OKC !!!!!!

This morning on talk radio, they were debating where Paul Pierce falls among the Celtics all-time players.

I agree with the guy that said Pierce is in the top ten, but NOT the top five.

IMO, that lofty place belongs to Russell, Bird, Havlicek, Cousy and McHale.

Here's who I would probably select for #6-#10 on the Top 10 Celtics list (in no particular order):

Parish, Sam Jones, Pierce, Heinsohn, and Dennis Johnson.

Watching the Lakers-Thunder series:

am I the only one who started thinking back to the Celtics-Hawks series a few years ago?

This feels a bit similar:

#1 seed that's a strong favorite to go deep in the playoffs

A young, athletic, on-the-rise #8 seed that made it back to the postseason after a terrible season the year before

Home teams win the first 4 games

(OTOH, the Thunder were not outclassed at STAPLES the way Atlanta was at the Garden)

Yep, OKC can score.
I hope to see a similar performance from their bench again in game 5.

Well....I was at game #3 of the HEAT/Celtics series and it was BEYOND heartbreaking. There is NOTHING worse than seeing your home team lose a game at the buzzer on the home floor....ESPECIALLY in the playoff to just about to be eliminated.

ONLY the Cav when Michael hit "The Shot" know how it feels....

You can clearly see that though Celtics ARE older, a HEAT team that had a 2nd gun could/would win this series....BUT alas, the HEAT is STILL a one man show....and that one man is great but NOT Michael Jordan great. Clearly, the Celtics are winning because they just have more firepower in regards to scoring than the HEAT do.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I do think the Lakers will survive this series, just like the '08 Celtics did...........

Cavs took Chicago to the woodshed today.

This reminds me of Lakers/Jazz last year- #1 seed wins the first 2 games, #8 seed wins a close game 3 that could have gone either way, then the top seed flexes their muscle in game 4.

Deep down, this didn't surprise me when considering Cleveland almost pulled off a miraculous game 3 comeback. Maybe that was a sign of what was to come in Game 4? I think so.

I gotta tell ya Bill, that Rondo is one pesky little SOB!! He has been a MAJOR match up problem for the HEAT. To me, he is one of THE top 3 or 4 best point guards in the league.

He is an excellent fit for their system, but if you put him on another team, where he had to shoot from outside...

One of the announcers opined that Tony Allen would make a good backup for Rondo, but that isn't going to happen. There are other teams that will be willing to make Tony Allen at least their third guard and give him more minutes than the Celtics would be able to give him as Rondo's backup, meaning he will be worth more money to them than he could be to the Celtics

I agree.

IMO, Rondo is behind Chris Paul, Deron Williams and MAYBE Chauncey Billups ......and that's it!

They are all VERY different. Paul, is the best PURE PG of the 3. Williams is the stronger of the 3 and Chauncey is a good shooter/leader. Rondo is just a weird combination of ALL of them. The ONLY thing that they ALL have over Rondo is they have better jump shots....but not by much.

Miami, for obvious reasons, needs to win. BUT, to me, they also have NOTHING to lose. They are down 3-1 AND going back to Boston. They are EXPECTED to close it out IN Boston. Miami is not.

The Spurs win, and now lead the Mavs 3 games to 1.

Since 1997, only three teams have come back from a 3-1 deficit:

1997- Heat over Knicks
2003- Pistons over Magic
2006- Suns over Lakers

Anyone think it'll happen again and Dallas can come all the way back?

(As someone who picked Dallas to make the West Finals and thought that the Spurs were finished as a title threat, I hope so.)

P.S. For now (assuming San Antonio does finish it off) Bill looks like a genius for picking the Spurs over the Mavs
