2010-2011 College Bowl Season

Looks like UConn fans aren't rushing to buy tickets to the Fiesta Bowl, and the university will be losing money on the game:

" ... The University of Connecticut, which sealed its first BCS bid when it won the Big East this year and earned the right to play Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, is on the hook for $2.5 million in unsold game tickets (which cost $111 to $268 apiece), 550 $125 to $225 hotel rooms, chartered flights for the team, staff and a 300-member band and bowl bonuses for head coach Randy Edsall and his crew, according to the New Haven Register. The Huskies' estimated cut of the Big East's $18 Fiesta Bowl payout is around $3 million, which almost assures they'll lose money on the game. ..."

Looks like getting an automatic invite to a BcS bowl game is a way for a conference to make $$$$, without regard to the school. The bIG eAST seems to have all kinds of shell games going for it, I am honestly surprised that the better schools haven't done a "Miami" and went to other conferences. (The deal with the Notre Chumps re: football comes to mind about weird arrangements.) Prediction: The b.e. will be a Division III football conference within 5 years. :)

It does surprise me that UConn fans are apparently not going to their 1st BcS bowl game en mass. Maybe its the high ticket prices and high travel expenses? The attendance at their games is pretty decent, IIRC.

It's 50% the travel cost, 50% the fact that Auburn/Oregon fans are dumping thousands of tickets on the open market (a ticket to the national championship game forces you to buy the co-hosted game, as well. WHAT A SCAM!). We're also not alone, this year, either - the bowl ticket market is pretty bad across the board.

What Co Hosted game ?

Where is the links showing who has sold what amount of tickets, we still have another week till Jan 1 and another week till the MNC game.

...not to mention when everyone is already seemingly taking shots at your school. It's more fodder, even though it's complete BS.

I'll be SHOCKED if we don't have 12k+ in Arizona.

IF Utah could hold on to the ball and catch it, they would be up by 14 points ....
Unfortunately, they had a penalty take a long gain to around the 5 taken away, then had a open recvr that the ball was slightly overthrown or they would have had another TD...
As it stands, it's still 0-0.

Utah's D* is playing very well so far.

I only saw the 1st of the game, up to Utah leading 3-0, but sure looked like the fix was in on the refs in the game, that is why I changed channels. Not saying the refs were partial, just appeared that way to me. I did love the fact that the players at Utah said that BSu had scheduled Pansy State teams to play all season. :D

Looks like the Utes quit playing after I changed channels, from the score, but with their starting QB, would have been a much better game.

Anyone see the half-time show? Meyer was supposed to be on there and was wondering if he was as stilted as he was pre-game. If so, please stay off games, Urban. :)

In the bowl last night that Tulsa and Hawaii played in, WAC co-champ HI took a beating like a red-headed stepchild and showed once again what a tough schedule they played all season long in the WAC. The 62-35 beating the score indicates was not as close a game as the final score makes it appear (Tulsa pulled a few major boners and left at least 21 points on the table they shouldn't have.) It actually reminded me of the beating HI took from the UGA a few years back in the Sugar Bowl. Now the hometown bowl may not be a safe game for them anymore?? :) Glad that Tulsa didn't stop scoring until the end on a team that had opted to run the score up on opponents at every opportunity all season long.

PS: Anyone know what the record was for Interceptions thrown by a QB in a bowl game? This game should easily eclipse that record as the QBs for HI were seeing Tulsa backs as wide receivers. :D

Wow, glad I didn't waste my time with that one !

I was helping the wife wrap presents for the kids and make cookies, soooooooo........ as much help as I am in these endeavors, I am much better off getting a TV on and turning on a "bowl game", no matter how bad it is. Keeps me out of trouble. :D

Hope ya'll had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

PS: If it had been a Buckeye game, we would not have been making cookies and the presents would have already been wrapped, without me, so she could cheer for the Vest' team.

Games I'll watch this week:

Toledo vs Florida Int.
This is my "Home" town team, also, could be an interesting game, both teams score alot.

Air Force vs Ga Tech
If I'm home, I'll watch.
Under over passes for this game teams combined = 20 passes, unless one team runs way out ahead of the other.

Iowa vs Missouri
This could be a good game.

ND vs Miami
Just for curiosity sake.

Then of course the smorgasbord of games on Jan 1,
The clicker will get a workout early on , on Jan 1, most of the early games overlap one another and most are Big Ten games as well.

I ALWAYS watch the "Rose Bowl" Wisconsin vs TCU.

I'll watch the Fiesta Oklahoma vs UConn as long as it's competitive.

Toledo worked at losing this game. We watched it and I was betting it would be a rout, but the fumbles? Maybe the coach should order a boatload of stick'um?

If only my Tech team had their regular QB...............

<- Taking under, passing is overrated. :D

Fumbles, Interceptions KILLED them.
I wish the coach would have went back to thier Starter, the freshman QB couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, thats sad because you really didn't get to see how really special WR Eric Page is (also thier Kick Returner).

Starting QB was injured earlier in the year, but it was expected that he was healthy now, as they mentioned on the TV.

Florida International also got a gift with 1:30 left in the game (Rockets leading at the time), they faced a 4th and 17 around the Toledo 35-40 yard line.
They ran a hook and lateral and came up a yard short, but the officials GAVE it to them and they ran the ball down close enough to kick a FG .... For some reason when they reviewed it, they could not see what was on the field of play....

The officiating is so poor in some of these games now that its simply astounding. I know the play you are talking about, watched the instant replays, plus the replay on my DVR and had thought there was no way in hell that the placement would stand. There were several other plays in which the calls were so bad it was amazing, but that one was so bad that I would ask for an investigation, if I were the Toledo coach. The game was stolen from them by the officials, IMO. Then, for the ESPN guys to say that officiating at the bowls was a reward for being good officials made me want to puick. Those guys were from the ACC (IIRC) and from what I have seen, the ACC and BE are having a challenge to see which can have the poorest officiating. Up to now, I thought the BE was winning that contest, but the ACC seems to have reclaimed the lead. :(
