2009 NBA Playoffs

A 3-1 lead is NOT 100% safe

A lot of people are going to consider this series over, BUT just because you're up 3-1 does not mean you're home free.

I know some people on here have seen their teams come back.

Bill- your Celtics did it in 1981.

Salsa- the Heat in 1997.

I'm sure others can remember their teams pulling it off.

In the words of Yogi Berra, "it ain't over until it's over."

Besides, as a Lakers fan, you need to focus more on your team and their series- you still are not out of the woods yet against Denver.

No biggie if Lakers win/lose. But this is what counts down below pal.

KOBE = 3 Rings
LEBRON = ZER0

If I'm Cleveland now I'm sending out the goons in Game 5 to pick a fight with Howard and get him T'd up again. The next T is an automatic suspension so if Cleveland can win Game 5 at home, get Howard supended for Game 6, then they have a shot to force a 7th game. Otherwise it's been real.

It's only his sixth year- give him some time.

Some great players took a LOOOONG time to get a ring:

Shaq- eight years

David Robinson- 10 years

Clyde Drexler- 11 years

Julius Erving- seven years

Not everyone can win a ring in two or three years.

I picked (and want) Cleveland to win the series, but I'm not going to take a sour grapes reaction and say, "Orlando was lucky, they didn't deserve to win, blah blah blah..."

They played a very good game tonight (they got in that three-point hot streak that made them a powerhouse this year)- I WANTED Cleveland to win, but I thought Orlando did played better in games 3-4.

That doesn't mean it's over, but it is not looking good for one team and good for another.

Here's a mantra to remember- Remember the 1981 Celtics.

They were down 3-1 in the Conference Finals- lost game 1 at home, lost twice on the road- and still won the series.

So, as far as I'm concerned, the series is not over until it's over.

Now is the perfect time to fire up the Animal House speech on nothing being over:

Was it over for the 1981 Celtics? (Ask Bill)

Was it over for the 1995 Rockets?

Was it over for the 1997 Heat? (Ask Salsa)

Was it over for the 2003 Pistons? (Ask Jimbo and Wozniak)

Was it over for the 2006 Suns?

HELL NO!

It's a far longer list of teams for whom it was over. Were it not for Lebron's miracle in Game 2 this series would now be over. The games may be close but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Can Lebron get some help for the next 3 games? Doubtful.

It's painful being a Cleveland sports fan. I'm disgusted right now.

I saw the Red Sox come back and beat the Tribe after being down 3-1 in the ALCS a few years back, so I'll keep my glimmer of hope. As it stands tonight (and I'm sure I can speak for most of Cleveland), I'm pretty deflated. Good night.

That's what I like- optimism, hope, never giving up.

There's a reason why I am into the Animal House speech on nothing being over yet.

3-1? Daunting, but not impossible.

Hell, I saw it happen already in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and it ALMOST happened in last year's ALCS.

For one night, forget about all this talk about Orlando being the better team. I don’t buy it. I’m sorry, call me naive, call me arrogant, call me a homer, it doesn’t bother me. I have watched this Cavalier team all season long, and I know they’re better than this.

It must just be a fluke then that Orlando has won so many games against the cavs?

I'd like to see Orlando vs Denver in the finals. Both teams deserve to be there.
The other 2 teams will be watching at home in their 100" Plasmas/LCDs

IF that were to happen- a heavy emphasis on IF, because a series is not over until the final buzzer- I would not be ticked off.

While I would love to see Kobe/LeBron- don't get me wrong, starpower is fun- I wouldn't turn off the TV if the opposite were to happen.

This is not like when the Pistons played the Spurs in the 2005 Finals.

That year's conference finals also involved the Heat and Suns- Miami was a fun team with starpower- Shaq and D-Wade (just ask Salsa) while Phoenix, though not heavy on big names, was an incredibly entertaining team with one of the most exciting offensive teams the NBA had seen in years.

Obviously, the sexy matchup would have been Miami/Phoenix- of course, it never happened, and we ended up with the orher one.

Two reasons why I hated that matchup:

1. Their style- it's not the size of the market the team plays in that annoys me (Detroit's a big city), but rather their style. First to 80 points wins with these teams!

2. Uncompetiveness- the series had few close games- that series was littered with blowouts. Just because a series goes seven games doesn't automatically make it a great series (a good example- Heat/Hawks this year)

It's not small-market teams I hate- it's the style of basketball they play. Pistons/Spurs were two teams that played a slow and not-so-fun stlye of basketball- Orlando and Denver can light it up, OTOH.

i didn't know you could watch a plasma tv from the inside of it?

The war of WILLs...Orlando's vs. Lebron.

The individual WILL is not strong enough against the Magic's WILL. Once again, all this goes back to the "coach of the year". He has made little to NO adjustments which again states the obvious.....he is either too hard headed to make changes OR....ready for this...here ya go....Orlando is just a better all around team than the Cavs....plain and simple.

...denial starts in....5.....4.....3....2....1.......

The Magic has imposed THEIR style of defense and offense on the Cavs and DARED them to adapt....and they have not. Someone here said something to the extent of they being "lucky" to make so many 3s...THAT is there game. 99% of the NBA look for lay-ups when they go on a fast break.....Orlando goes for 3s. THAT is how they play.

The so-called best defensive team in the league....going into the ECF, they were allowing only 78 points a game. In this series, Orlando has scored under 99 points ONCE. They do not have the perimeter defense. The ONLY match-up the Magic are losing is the Lebron match-up....and that was expected.

And finally, Lebron James is the best player in the world....period....not even close. And he will go down as probably the greatest scorer in NBA history. ALOT of it thanks to his power game. He will also go down with the most free throw made and attempted because that guys BARRELS into the lane more than any player I have ever seen....and he will also get more phantom calls than any player in history. Regardless of whether he trips over his feet....like the foul called with .5 seconds left in the game last night...or lowers his shoulders...he will get that call 120% of the time. LOL!! I have seen and have no issues with home town calls...Michael use to get them ALL THE TIME....it is what it is. But I have never seen a player get more calls ON THE ROAD than Lebron....NOT EVEN Michael Jordan got half of the calls Lebron gets ON THE ROAD.
