2008 MLB Playoffs

LOS ANGELES -- Manny Ramirez cleaned out his locker at Dodger Stadium Thursday afternoon possibly for the last time, leaving behind a fortune cookie on the nameplate above his locker reading, "Don't look back, Always look ahead."

Then Ramirez headed toward the elevator with a throng of media chasing after him and did just that.

The impending free agent stood at the elevator waiting to leave with a smile on his face, refusing to answer any questions except to say, "I'll send you guys a Christmas card," to a circus of reporters hanging on his every word. Whether that was his farewell to the Los Angeles media corps he has treated so well since being acquired by the Dodgers on July 31 remains to be seen, but clearly Ramirez has already entered free agent mode one day into the offseason.

I think there is like a 2 week period that the Dodgers can negotiate with him before the other teams can join in. (that might be from the WS on, you would think, I heard about the exclusive 2 week period from someone in the media today) , I'm sure Manny/Boris will wait out the Dodgers offers so they can see what others will offer.
It would be in LA's best interest to make a great offer right away, if they want to keep him, why let others raise the anty.

With the injuries and transactions, I give Boston a lot of credit for getting this far.

That a battered and bruised team with player changes was able to beat a great Angels team- my hats off regardless of tonight's outcome.

Boy, if the Sox lose, does this suck for me. Think about it, in 24 hrs., the Phillies clinch the NL Pennant AND Scott Kazmir pitches the clinching game for the Rays.:(

Isn't it amazing how we personalize these games even though our teams are not involved? That is why baseball is America's game hands down. We have passion and personal feelings that are unique to the 162 game season.

You sit and have your personal feelings...I sit and say this weak team is not the team that beat the Angels last week. Tell me a Phils vs. Rays World Series is unimportant? NOT!!!!!

This young Rays team is just so impressive.

The operative word being "young".

I haven't seen a team this impressive in the postseason since the '98 Yankees (at least so far)!

Sabres, as a Sox fan I really appreciate you saying that, but the fact is, IMO, the Sox are clearly behind both the Rays and Angels (despite beating them).

Maybe karma is there for the Rays. It seems like they are doing everything on all cylinders. You know it seems like both the Rays and Phillies are doing everything right so far.

That's why I think it will be a very exciting series.

This is NOT like 2007: Red Sox vs. an overmatched Rockies squad.

I've never seen Fenway this silent. I'll be honest, I've been in and out of this game but let's face it, it's over.

I hate to keep talking about the Mets but this reminds me of the Mets vs. Marlins, not 2008 but last year when the Marlins got a huge early lead and the Mets never recovered.

Could this be the lowest rated WS ever?

It probably COULD be, I just don't think it SHOULD be.

If you're a fan of good baseball then this series should appeal to you.

I think it may be the other way around ....
The Rays are the surprise team of the year, many will be watching to see what is happening in Tampa.
Most of the country will be rooting for the Rays, I think :eureka

Are the Rays favored ?
What has Vegas had to say ?

I think the Rays will definitely be favored.

In fact, if either the Angels or Red Sox were representing the AL, they would have been favored also.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing either team win it.

If the Phillies win it, that's great for Philly who is starved for a championship.

If the Rays win it, it's like the '69 Mets all over again. :up

We'll probably beat the 'low ratings' angle into submission.

What is, techically, the lowest-rated World Series ever? I need something for an over/under.

That's doubtful. Tampa Bay can't even get people to go to their home games. If the locals don't care about them then the rest of the country certainly won't.

I think the over/under may be whatever NHL games get. That's how low I think it'll be.

Who's the biggest NFL disappointment so far this season?

Best World Series of all-time?
