2008-09 College Bowl Season

I agree, I think that the AP will and should crown Utah..

They're the only defeated team left, and killed the team that was #1 for most of the season. No matter who wins between Florida and Oklahoma, the champion should be Utah.
I think that will be the case at least if Oklahoma wins. Everyone knows that they gamed the system to get to the NC. If golden boy Tim Tebow and Florida win the media will probably fawn all over them and Utah will become a distant memory.

I hope there is a split. It will be great watching all the BCS sucks ups try to justify this moronic system. It's like watching people argue that the earth is flat.

Well....don't get me wrong, I don't think that just because you go undefeated, you should win the national championship....but they manhandle a team that was #1 for most of the season.....and at home, more or less.

#1 in the polls is starting to mean less and less. With all due respect to Saban and Bama, they benifited from victories over teams that were over-rated - Georgia inparticular. And had LSU had anything at QB, Bama would've lost that game. Once they faced a talent level a cut above, Bama showed their true colors and couldn't match up.

Goes to show that the polls are random and are more than often inaccurate. Some teams benifit from this more than others, as LSU and tOSU did last year. :)

You know, that statement could go for utah also. Had alabama had the starting O line, I doubt the running game would have been so pathetic. Had alabama had the starting O line, I doubt wilson would have been sacked 8 times. The fact is, they didnt. Does that mean Bama wasnt better? Who knows, going by the game, no. Does it mean LSU would have won with a good QB? Who knows, going by the game, no. It happened how it happend, but your argument could go both ways. No one is overrated until they lose a game they arent expected to in many cases.

I more or less agree. I dont know if I think Utah is the best team in the land (I dont even know if they are actually better than Bama), but what else do they have to do? They went undeafeated, and beat a BCS team that was highly regarded. The system is screwed, but they deserve some recognition. I wouldnt have a problem with them getting the AP crown at all

If OSU had an O Line that was as good as the others, they could have been in the hunt this year as well.

Nothing like good ole fashon smack talk to get a team going....

Oklahoma....shut the f**k up!! It's bad enough that you give a so-so team bulletin board material to get them all lathered up in a frenzy...but to to talk crap about the teams leader and best player....oh well, you get what you ask for.....LOL!!

The real funny thing is Stoops is blaming the media...LOL!! It is ALWAYS the medias fault....

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Oklahoma's defenders have had enough of all the questions about the Big 12's shaky defensive numbers this season.

They've also apparently had enough of the Tim Tebow talk.

Oklahoma sophomore cornerback Dominique Franks said during interviews with the media Sunday morning at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa that Tebow would have been no better than the fourth-best quarterback in the Big 12 this season.

Oklahoma's Dominique Franks said stepping up to the task this season of defending Big 12 quarterbacks was no easy chore.
"If you look at the three best quarterbacks in the country, they came from the Big 12," said Franks, referring to Oklahoma's Sam Bradford, Texas' Colt McCoy and Texas Tech's Graham Harrell.

"The three best receivers in the country came from the Big 12. The three best tight ends came from the Big 12. So we've faced some great offenses, and a lot of people don't understand that other conferences don't have what we face."

Franks didn't stop there, either. He said the Heisman voters got it right this year in selecting Bradford for the coveted award, no doubt spicing up the prelude to Thursday's FedEx BCS National Championship Game.

"With us being in Florida and playing against Florida, everybody's going to think Tebow should have won the Heisman," Franks said. "But the right person won the Heisman, and we're going to go out there and show everybody the reason why he won it."

The Sooners are ranked 63rd nationally in total defense and 98th in pass defense. Franks and his defensive teammates grew increasingly agitated Sunday as the questions persisted about Oklahoma's defense not being able to hold up against Tebow and the Florida offense.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops attempted Sunday to play down Franks's comments, blaming media members for making his pronouncements such a big story.

"You guys lead young guys into a lot of questions," Stoops said.

I think that Franks got it wrong. Tebow would be #4 in the Big-12 South, behind Bradford, McCoy, Harrell. But he would be #5 in the whole Big-12, behind Chase Daniel too.

While not knocking Braford at all he's a legitimate talent

Graham Harrell is nothing more than a systen QB with mediocre talents.

Reminds of the BYU Qb's in years past with Steve Young being the sole exception.

My take on the weekend of games and Bowl Season in general........

Every year we have huge upsets that going into the game, no one thinks could ever happen. Last year it was Boise St. over Oklahoma. This year it was Ole Miss over Texas Tech and Utah over Alabama.

Now, everyone's clamoring about how "overrated" Bama and TT are and these Bowl games proved that point. To that I say, not so fast....

Bama and TT were legitimately ranked among the best during the regular season and rightfully so. Their body of work backed that up.

Now let's fast forward to the Bowls. TT got snubbed from consideration of playing in the Big12 Championship and thus eliminated them from playing in a more prestigious and meaningful Bowl game. Bama also thought they were more deserving of playing in the NCG after their only regular season loss was a close one to #1 Florida in the SEC Championship Game.

From the end of the regular season to the start of the Bowls, most teams are off for an unreasonable amount of time, usually 6 weeks. Teams in lesser bowls thinking they deserve better aren't nearly as motivated for the games. All of this leads to the unthinkable upsets.

I'm not downplaying Utah and Ole Miss's accomplishments. It's not their fault their opponent wasn't up for their games, but I am saying that we as college football fans fans aren't getting a fair representation of which teams are actually better. With the current setup it's simply impossible. The two main reasons for letdowns are the 6 week layoff and lack of motivation for a meaningless Bowl.

Until there is a playoff system and every team is playing for the same goal, all of this "Utah's and Boise States of the world are the best team in the nation talk", is completely unfounded and that's a shame, both for Utah/Boise St. and the rest of the sport.

Thoughtful analysis above

With this caveat thrown in. Does a huge diservice to Ole Miss to say Tech wasn't motivated.

Ole Miss was the better team, has the better athletes, as the upcoming NFL drafts will attest, has the better coach and would win the majority of times they lined up and played Tech motivated or not.

I agree. Next year Houston Nutt and Ole Miss will open the eyes of CFB fans who haven't paid close attention to the SEC this year.
