I think they were happy to get anyone who could coach.
all they needed was a good motivator ( which HDN is), but you also got to realize he's playing with the previous coaches recruits. It turns out that the previous coach wasn't a good coach but was a very good recuiter.
EDIT : I wouldn't hope probation on anyone. I don't care for your team but they have a good coach.
looking at houston nutts record , yes he won , and when the team was down he would squeek out a impressive win but in the long run it was the same old thing. he was very predictable look at his wake forest loss this year he went conservative when they had the game won. his bowl record ( and yes i know you will say at least he took them to bowls) was 2-5 and none were bcs bowls he had the makings of a NC team and squandered it away.

We bitch and bitch about the BCS, but yet again, look at what we have learned thus far:
1. Obviously Utah is better than Alabama; at least on this night
2. Texas Tech obviously did not deserve a shot
Obviously there are more stories than just these two, but it does make you stop and think for a moment on how much BCS gets things right

PAC-10 / especially USC = harder schedules and UNDER RATED
SEC = weaker schedules and OVER RATED (getting exposed) now FLA loses and it will be complete.

Or at least 12 team, you could go by the top 12 in the BSC regardless and it would be a lot of fun.
btw, you can still have the rest of your bowl games for those teams not in the BSC games, for those that think they NEED bowl games.
If my team is # 13, tough luck, I shouldn't have fumbled on the 4th and one at the 50 yard line when trying to break it for the endzone.

What exactly did they get right? A 13-0 Utah team has no shot at a NC because they aren't from a BCS conference. USC has no shot at a NC because they didn't get enough style points, and Texas got screwed like a $2 whore. Great system.

Alabama lost to an undefeated utah team who have won their last 8 bowl games . They certainly are no patti cake team
Lsu and ga won their bowl games even vandy won. Ole miss beat a top 10 texas tech team. National title contender at one point.
How is the sec over rated this year?
As far as the pac 10 go I want hate on usc they are a great team a national title contender but the rest of the pac10 can't hold usc's jock straps
8, 12, 16 who cares how many? Just do it, already. You and I have produced workable plans for all three numbers last season. If we had money (like some college boosters), this would be done.
After yesterday, the terms "gagged" and "Lubbock" will be together in a lot of sentences amongst the many sports conversations that will take place.

Seeing that the AP crowns their OWN champion....I would not be surprised if they steal votes away from whomever wins between OK and UF. In fact, I am gonna say right now that in the AP, the national championship WILL BE SPLIT!
I for one, am hoping there is a split championship. That might get us one step closer to the playoff we all want.
I agree, I think that the AP will and should crown Utah..
They're the only defeated team left, and killed the team that was #1 for most of the season. No matter who wins between Florida and Oklahoma, the champion should be Utah.
