bill another thing to add to your post is that people talk about how the single season TD record fell and how the single season yards record will fall this season but remember how dan set those records in only one season. something that no other qb has done. more yards and more td's but in one season by the same qb. so when you consider how offenses back then weren't favored like they are now to put up big numbers, and in our case we had no defense and no running game so teams would prepare for this guy every game year after year, everyone always knew we were going to pass and yet they couldn't stop HIM says a lot about his individual accomplishments. i'm still amazed how we were even able to make it to that SB just riding on marinos arm that year. Rodgers reminds me so much of marino except that rodgers can run which marino couldn't yet he had excellent movement in the pocket and was usually the least sacked qb almost every season. Rodgers is definitely my favorite QB in the league.he's a real pleasure to watch. plays the position as a QB should.and i'm glad he got his ring early. just get one more so you can crush you know who :D

Marino and Rodgers is a great comparison!:up

MIAMI—Tim Tebow's popularity hasn't been enough for the winless Miami Dolphins to sell out Sunday's game, so they've agreed to buy any remaining tickets to avert a television blackout in South Florida.
Those tickets will be given to season-ticket holders. The Dolphins also bought all unsold tickets for their most recent home game.

Tebow returns to Florida to make his first start of the season for the Denver Broncos. Since the decision to start him was announced last week, more than 10,000 tickets have been sold.

Dolphins attendance has declined with the franchise's recent fortunes, but Miami has avoided any blackouts since the start of the 2001 season.

why would us fans want to see that???? put a good product on the field, then we'll go see the games. dolphins have always done well selling their games but enough is enough. not selling their games out will push the inevitable to happen sooner

It's not about being a first round pick. Luck is being talked about as being special...possibly Elway/Marino special. I don't believe the above were talked about like that.

Sandra

I am only stating the obvious, given the history of QBs taken in the 1st round...odds are not in his favor.

You want fans...put a winning product. That applies to any team.
Ownership the last 5 years have been interested in getting celebrity owners than good players. The Raiders have a bad history drafts and free agents...the Dolphins history in that area is just as bad if not worse.

Bu, bu, buttttttt it's the Tim Teeebow/ Florida Gator reunion show!!!!

I have listened to every single sport radio show in the morning this morning and they have all said the same thing.... it is downright embarrassing that you will be celebrating another teams player on your home field.

...they understand WHY the Dolphins did it...but it's embarrassing none the less.

For Notre Dame, perhaps. ;)

But Mirer was not even the first QB selected in that draft. It's rare that a player is deemed such a potential franchise-changer that teams want to position themselves for the first overall pick this badly. And that the NFL may have to warn teams to play competitive football for 16 weeks.

This does not mean Luck is guaranteed to be an Elway/Marino...but he is considered to potentially be in their class. But compiling a list of first round draft picks who failed and comparing them to Luck is just silly.

Perhaps, he MIGHT be as good as those two, but to assume or to think he WILL, is even more silly;)

Remember, NO ONE was shuffling for Marino. So for all those that state 'people thought he was a special player' ...no, they didn't. There were 5 QBs taken BEFOR Dan.

The only thing that exists right now for Luck is potential. A LOT of NFL people think he has the potential to be the next Elway/Marino. That does not ASSUME he will be...it just means he has the potential to be special.

Enough potential that the league is worried teams will tank in order to draft him. The league did not worry about with regad to Bradford, Stafford, Russell, Smith, etc...other QB's who were drafted first overall.

That is all.

you remember the reason for that right??? it had nothing to do with his talents. there were false rumors that marino was a drug addict. which if it would've turned out to be true, he would've fit in just fine here in miami. considering what was going on at the time  :D

Dan Marino was a [very pleasant] surprise. NOBODY thought that he would be as good as he was. The obvious comparison for Andrew Luck as the presumed overall number one draft pick would be John Elway & Peyton Manning. So far there are 3 teams who are winless, the Indianapolis Colts,Miami Dolphins,& St. Louis Rams, followed by 5 teams who have only won 1 games. The "Suck for [Andrew] Luck" Sweepstakes is on. Andrew Luck should screw with everybody's minds by a) coming back next season to Stanford for his senior year,b) take a year off after that by taking a Rhodes Scholarship to England,& finally c) go to the Canadian Football League & prove to the NFL it's not about the money.

Also, he supposedly had some character/attitude problems.
