Joey coax requirements

Yes, RG59 will work for all Joeys, including Joey 4's.
Four more questions:

1. Is the 4k (wired) faster than the J3 (in the guide, menus, etc.)? I don't care about 4k video, just speed for better ease of use.

2. Does the 4k have the same UI as the H3, or is it like the H+?

3. Does the 4k run Android apps like the H+?

4. Are there any known problems using a 4k with a H3 without the H+?

It sounds like you are mixing up the 4K Joey and the Joey 4. The 4K Joey has the same UI as the H3. The Joey 4 does Android apps. I have a 4K Joey and a Joey 3 in my setup. They are both pretty speedy. The 4K Joey has little to none 4K so I would go with the Joey 3 if suits your purposes.

As Bobby said above, there is a "Joey4" and a "4K Joey". They are not the same.
With that being said, here are my real-world answers to your questions based on the "Joey4":

1. The J4 is absolutely faster than the J3. I replaced my J3's with J4's last year just for the speed improvement (they also have on-board Bluetooth capability if you care about that).
2. The UI is the "tiles" one like the H+, but the standalone H3 has gone to that style now anyway.
3. Yes the J3 runs the same apps as the Hopper (it actually is tied to them through MOCA; in other words only your H3 needs an internet connection).
4. No problems at all. I have been running an H3 (without Plus) and numerous Joey4's for over a year with no problems. As I said above, the only difference used to be the H3 having the "old" menus, but it went to the J4 style a few months ago so now all my TVs match anyway.

Yes, I was confusing them a bit. And the wording of my questions was a little vague. Let me try asking less obtusely.

I have a H3 with the Appearance settings set to "classic" for both the Home Screen and Theme preferences. I have no interest in 4k video or Android apps, so those don't play a part in the decision and can be ignored.

Instead, between a J3, J4, and 4kJ, which one will be the fastest and maintain the same UI look-n-feel as how I have my H3 configured.

The J3 and 4K Joeys UI look just like the H3. Even if you have no interest in the 4K properties the 4K Joey would probably fit your bill.

Thanks Bobby.

And just to be clear, the 4kJ UI can be put into "classic" mode instead of using "tile" mode, correct?
