NCAA says that Tressell is NOT "forthright"...

Hmmm, didn't Reggie Bush play illegally ?

Him getting the stuff he got, no way impacted him playing on the field.

No, but as with the above point I was making, it did impact the play of the team that he was a member of. Correct?

Hmmm, interesting stance your taking, maybe we would have played BETTER with the guys that are taking thier place this year ... Never know, we might be BETTER this coming year.

Got a QB thats not full of himself, a stable of RB's a Defense that will be shaped by Mike Vrabel, I think they will do fine this year and be a LOT of fun to watch !!!

If they were better last year, they would have been the starters. The starters are the starters for a reason.
Now given a year to advance, players can improve, but dont argue that the team would have been better at last years status by playing last years backups over last years starters.

While there is no actual advantage in the game. The advantage is getting the players on the field. That advantage is 2-fold.

1) They should have been ineligible, so shouldn't have been there in the first place.
2) The big advantage is in recruitment. The veteran players can tell recruits that the coaching staff turns a blind eye to breaking the rules on selling things, which could in turn sway a money hungry recruit towards the school.

In the end, all the excuse making doesn't stop the facts that the players broke the rules, the head coach knew about it, covered it up, and lied to investigators. The school will be extremely lucky to not get slapped with lack of institutional control and get a worse punishment than USC.

You're picking apart what I said to debate the points that fit your 'argument'.
And you structured your initial argument to backup your debate.

Had the players involved in the scandal last season not been allowed to play, the team would not have played to it's competitive potential. We all know that, especially Buckeye fans. No argument or debate will change that simple fact.

The really sad part is that especially if the suspensions had occurred early in the season, there's a good chance that OSU would have won with their backups. The chance you take I guess...

I was simply getting to the point that the players themselves may not have had a competitive advantage by their acts, they werent able to run faster (ect), but the teams most definitely gained a competitive advantage by having starters that should not be playing on the field.
A couple of people have made that or similar points already, but many Buckeye (and USC for that matter when theirs happend) fans (not just here) ignore it.

That NOT what I said, at ALL.

I said that they may play BETTER this year than last .... no more distractions from the QB that thinks he's better than everyone else.

Lots of players played last year and will still be playing this year, lots of young talent will play and lots more coming in this year.

Ya and Cam Newton shouldn't have played either, so Oregon is the NATIONAL CHAMP !

If it was OK for USC to play the whole season with Bush and Auburn with Newton, why is it NOT OK for the Bucks.... Just because the NCAA chose to look into the Buckeyes first and wait on the Auburn scandel to come out doesn't make it right.

You want to talk about playing for PAY, THAT is the CLASSIC EXAMPLE and it's been reported as such, yet the NCAA wanted Auburn and Newton, so they SECRETLY made him INELIGIBLE and then re instated him RIGHT before a BIG GAME.

You've really got to stop reaching like this. :o

The big difference in the examples you gave is that there was direct evidence about the violations at OSU while the players were still in school. USC was clearly years later and if concrete proof about the Newtons getting paid is found, he's obviously gone as well.

But they didn't WANT to find problems with Newton, he was thier STAR for the upcoming SEC Championship and MNC game as well.

Who's they, the NCAA?? The same group that let your boys play in the last Sugar Bowl instead of suspending them immediately?? :D

Got to agree here. If Auburn got preferential treatment in OSU eyes, yall darn well should admit that your team did as well.

I just wish all of this crap gets finalized quickly so we can get on with just playing football. Get the couple years of being banned from a bowl + a few scholarships lost and move on. Just hearing about all of this is making me sick anymore. Its time to start a new chapter in OSU history books.

So many excuses, and blame on what other programs have done, or may have done. Ive kept out of this, but the more I read, the more I say to OSU fans, Man up.

Hell I went through it. Albert Means anybody? Roll Tide Roll? Is this thing on?
Admitting your team and those behind it messed up doesnt mean you are a crappy person. It just means you may catch crap for a while. It passes, and doesnt really matter.

We did wrong. So did yall. Take your punishment, and hopefully your higher ups will make sure it doesnt happen again.

I am also sick of the excuses. If you followed my comments in this thread you will see I am an OSU fan that did man up and admit that they made a huge mistake.

Fair enough. I havent read them all and Im not directing them at everyone, and not just here.

Trust me, I hear about this pretty much every day in the news and on the radio here and it is making me sick. NCAA please finish the investigation and make your sentence known.
