Well the Arizona Cardinals are the oldest professional American football team operating, however: the Cardinals have never made a Super Bowl appearance; it is currently one of six NFL teams never to have done so (the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New Orleans Saints being the others). The team's lone NFL championship game victory, in 1947, while based in Chicago, came two decades before the first Super Bowl Game was played. The club's other NFL championship, in 1925, occurred eight years before the league began holding a championship game. In the six-plus decades since winning the championship in 1947, the team has qualified for the playoffs only five times and has won but a single playoff game (a record for futility approached only by the Detroit Lions).

True about the Saints, they may have virtually the same losing ways as the Cards, but the Cards have been at it some 56 years LONGER :

OK, the Cardinals win this one hands down. At least they have shared the grief with more than one city. Fortunately very few people have had to endure this for a complete lifetime, like I have with the Lions. (You had to know I would get them in here somehow!)

My defense of this defenseless team is that they have never had more than 6 straight seasons with a record under .500 (the Reds have had 8 such seasons.... and counting). However, the number-stretching stops there. The Bengals were a good NFL franchise until Paul Brown died in August 1991. It's been since then that futility has been their synonym--and that's no coincidence. Everyone that follows Bengals football (with the exception of the Brown family itself) knows that Mike Brown is solely responsible for running this once-proud (not great, but proud) franchise into the ground.

I can't speak for the Bucs because I'm not a fan, but I would think since they won no more than 6 games in a year for a number of years, that would be a longer stretch of futility.

I have to second that about Mike Brown. If he would just hire a GM and let him take care of the day-to-day opertaions of the team then we wouldn't have this futility we see today, but he has it in his head he can be as good as dad and he just doesn't have the knowledge.

They probably will, with so many players out. I know that's not an excuse, but Aaron Smith being out will probably be the worse of them all.
