Thanks, this helps clarify things. Agreed it's really for redundancy. I usually see the BACKUP comment when people are comparing the number of tuners on the Hopper vs. Genie. Usually when one person states the Genie has five, the Hopper person says you can get two Hoppers for six tuners. But again, if one goes out, you will lose all the recorded shows on that Hopper. I guess that's better than losing all shows.
Perhaps DirecTV will allow users to have two Genies on one account in the future. Then you could have ten tuners and redundancy.
