I won't right away but eventually I will . I like the concept of not pulling out your phone every time to check the time or messages. $349 is a steep price though . Wonder why they wouldn't make it price competitive with others on the market?

Because they do not have to! The sheeple will buy!

I'm a tech junky. So YES, I have been waiting for this for 2 years! When I started scuba diving, I bought my first "expensive" watch, a Seiko Diver's Watch. I still have it today. Back in the early 70's I paid over $300 for it. So, watches in the price range of several hundred is not out of line for me. In 2005, I bought a Tissot T-Touch in Titanium. Has lots of features and I used every one of them. It was my most expensive watch ever at $800. Today it goes for $1200 in the latest model and can be had for less. But I wanted more tech so I bought a Sony Smartwatch2 two years ago and have it loaded with apps. This one is not water resistant so I have to be careful. But I have learned to rely on so many of the convenience apps that it would be real hard to get by a day without it. I got used to recharging it every 2-3 days. No different than recharging my smart phone every other day. People who are at ease with a cheap low cost Casio or similar "junk" watch to just know the time are not a candidate for an Apple watch. People who don't like wearing any wrist jewelry at all, are certainly not a candidate.

I like the concept of not pulling out your phone every time to check the time or messages.
To me it was more than that. With the Sony I get alerts and can quickly read text messages, e-mail and see who is calling and can reject or answer at a glance. If I need a flashlight at night I just flick my wrist and the room lights up. alarm clock, calendar alerts and I get alerts on my stock holdings and never need to pull my phone out and this adds an extra day to my phone battery life. I get GPS locations on a map where I'm at and see at a glance weather radar screen. This is on the $150 Sony connected to my Samsung Android phone.

So the Apple watch is more a want than a need. The Sony is not elegant, It is not water resistant, the apps are simple and basic but to most of you naysayers would be quite a move up. But after 2 years of using the Sony, I wasnt to do more and the Apple Watch is the next grade up. Moving from a traditional "junk watch" to a Sony type smart watch is like moving from a 1960's dial phone to a Smart phone. Moving from the Sony Smartwatch 2, for me, will be like moving from a two year old Blackberry to an iphone 6.

It's unfortunate so many posting here speak with no experience with smart watches and what they can do. One comment that is incorrect, is the BT connectivity. I can put my phone on my desk in my office and wander around the house and never lose connection. But my house is only 2000 sq ft. If I go out in the back yeard beyond my pool area, then it alerts me I have lost BT and will no longer get my internet features but the local stuff still works. The Apple watch goes one better and uses the wider coverage wifi connection direct as well as the BT4.0 so connection is rarely lost. I can answer calls on my watch now but to speak and hear, I have to also have my BT ear piece in. The Apple watch doesn't require that. This, for me is like a two year upgrade to my Sony Smartwatch.

The medical stuff is really interesting for me. The two areas are the Parkinson's testing and diabetes. There are five current areas of medical health biofeedback that come with it and the future is now going to be open source. I'm excited that with this new area, we may see faster and more thorough clinical trials on disease research than we were ever able to have before this. This will also be able to work with the iphone 6.

So, for years I have resisted iphone, but now with the Apple watch combo, and Apple Pay, I'll gladly join the Apple fanboy club. But, I'll still stick to my trusty PC for video editing. PC's are a whole 2 decades ahead of Apple for video production.

So here's my plan-

I will buy the stainless model with the stainless band when it comes out and will upgrade my samsung S5 to an iphone 6. Budget is $1200.

I plan to buy a similar one for my son-in-law who has an iphone 6 now for his birthday. He's not so much a tech junky but a real Apple fan boy, more so than me. Budget $650

In August, I will get my daughter an apple watch not sure which model and a matching one for my wife for their birthdays.

So, that's 4 apple watches I will buy in the next 5 months. I will fund the purchase buy selling some of my apple stock. The past 6 years owning and buying Apple stock, I can reap some of those benefits.

I would not buy the Apple Edition although it does look nice. I would be concerned that some thug would cut off my hand to steal it.

Scott- it is rated as IPX7 water resistance. That's a specification good to 1 meter depth pressure for 30 minutes. Plus splash and running water resistance. I don't think it would be an issue swimming on the surface. I don't scuba dive anymore, only snorkeling and can't even do surface dives. When I went snorkeling in Roatan last week, I wore my old Seiko Diver's watch. I am more concerned about my daughter and son-in-law who would wear it surfing but even that brief exposure is unlikely to be an issue.

My wife reviewed the biometrics and medical feedback features and said she will bet that health insurance companies may offer discounts for owners of these watches with these features. She is still connected to the industry through her friends and it seems there is talk about this now. Similar to no smoking discounts.

I look forward to your review Don. I can't see a reason for me to get it, as I have a GPS watch for working out and also have my iPhone with me, with exercise apps.

I carry my phone with me everywhere I go like I do my watch on my wrist that I still wear all day long. I have been waiting for an iwatch for a while but may decide to wait for the second or third version to come out waiting for bugs to be fixed and enhancements. I do like what they are doing with this watch though. I like the wifi/bt connectivity, being able to answer phones on the watch and check messages. It would help me put down my iphone in which I just got the iphone 6plus a few days ago and an m-cell tower so that I can actually have service here. I love wearing my watch but dont check the time on it near as much since I started using my smart phone. I love the new iphone 6plus by the way.

No, as I never liked wearing a watch in the first place.
The great thing about a cell phone (when the flip phones starting showing the time on the outside), was that I no longer needed to wear a watch to tell the time.

Evidently most people felt the same way, as the wrist watch quickly dissapeared from most peoples wrists.

Stuff to consider if on the fence-

I think the biggest trouble I'll have is getting used to an iphone6 from my Samsung5s. But I'm slowly erasing my own myths from tradition as technology has eliminated most of those so far. I keep thinking of new stuff I do now that I won't be able to do with the iOS system and then do a little search and discover I was so wrong. This morning I woke up and needed to learn how to transfer my calendar, e-mail, contacts from Android to iphone and was happy to learn this, today, is not a problem, and can even be done with wifi phone to phone. Last I recall this sort of task had to be done by Verizon tech in the back room.

I'm not so much interested in the sports aspect but that may wear on me if I have it available. I had considered getting an iphone 6+ but after this last trip I saw so many people with the 6+ and how big it was to carry around, I made the decision that the 6 which seems to be the same size as my Samsung s5 will be big enough.

Before I saw the presentation I had figured I, too, would wait for a future generation Apple Watch. But it occurred to me that everything I needed in a smart watch was already offered and then some with the Apple watch ver 1 and that I trust the hardware bugs have been all worked out. ipad 1 was so well designed on day one that we still use ours today. The only upgrade I needed was a self contained one with internet connection so then I got the 3. So what would I like to see in a future Applewatch that is not available now? It would be nice to see these features in a future version, but none of them are worth me waiting a year, two years or even 5 years for.

1. Solar powered so it never needs recharging. ( longer battery between 18 hour recharge vs, 5 day or even one month is not so important to me considering I recharge the phone that often too. )
2. All Titanium case and band for stainless durability and light weight.
3. Different artistic designs to appear more like classic jewelry
4. Totally self contained, not needing any phone for all functions.
5. Waterproof to 300 meters, if I were planning to get back into deep mixed gas diving again. NOT! :D

Why would you wait for a future generation that offered it?

Everything else might be just software upgrade to version 1.

I don't understand why some people feel the need to post repeatedly they won't get the Apple watch in this thread because they don't like wearing a watch. OK we get that. Or, it's too expensive. Most people who are members here can certainly afford it so then it becomes a personal choice to have an Apple or Pebble, or Sony; a Casio, Seiko, or Breitling, or Rolex or just ask others what time it is. Reaching into the pocket to get out the phone to see what time it is becomes a procedure similar to using a pocket watch, like they did in the 1800's. :D These are personal choices and we all make our choices. I guess it's like when the iphone or ipad came out, these people were all boasting how they don't need a smart phone because their flip phone works just fine, today, they carry a smartphone, many an iphone. Then the ipad haters, posted over and over how the laptop was just fine and would never have an ipad, but many today have given up the laptop for the convenience of the ipad or a convertible, like the surface Pro. I bet that these people will come around and buy the Apple watch, maybe in a year or two when they learn what great new things they can do with it. I can't wait for when I can go to the checkout counter and just wave my wrist hear the beep and know that I just paid for my merchandise.

One thing I'm dealing with now is how to use my Sony Smartwatch2 that I've become accustomed to with an iphone 6 if I should make the move to prepare for the Apple watch in a month. Maybe it's best to just wait until I can get both at the same time. I can assure anyone here that once you get used to having a smart watch, you'll never go back to a simple time piece.

Don.
Are you ordering online or buying from b&m Apple Store?
I believe you can go to an Apple Store and try several models on before buying starting April 10th.

Thanks. I will probably try our local store here in Jacksonville first but unfortunately, I will be traveling during the April 10th time so I may just order it online. Haven't really decided yet. I don't anticipate the long lines on April 24th like we have with the iphone but you never know. The negative surveys and negative nancys are typically wrong when it comes to Apple product launches. I should be home in time for the release date. I will be in Las Vegas on the 12th so maybe stop in their store to have a hands on look. I will do the upgrade to iphone 6 at our local Verizon store. Personally, I hope there is a lack luster sales on day one so I can walk in and buy one. :)

I don't understand why some people feel the need to post repeatedly they won't get the Apple watch in this thread because they don't like wearing a watch.
Probably because the thread asked
"Will you buy an apple watch?"

All we are doing is answering the questing and giving the reason.

Nothing against apple, I have an iphone myself. Just don't like wearing a watch, and thus answering the question asked.

Whoops! I see, the poll question was about first generation purchase, yes of no, but the thread question was Apple watch: yes or no. Subtle difference.

I voted no. I just wish I could delete the app for it from the 8.2 update. Thanks for the bloatware Apple.
That's one of my biggest complaints, is the number of apps that apple has on the iphone that are undeletable. I have a folder that they get tossed into.

If I wanted a podcaster (or whatever), I'd install one. For now, they all just waste precious storage space.
