Will we get to keep HD + plat pack for one year?

As idiotic as it sounds, it really does sound like it's forever.

I didn't want to deal with a human to get Platinum, so I went to the package selection web page and de-selected my existing HD package. Then I hit the review order button. On the page that came up, the old HD packages were gone and the new HD + Platinum package for $10 was the option.

Looks like that is the way to go then for anyone who wants it. Will they charge you a downgrade fee when you remove HD prior to readding it?

I haven't been charged any down grade fees in a quite a while. I have changed my pack online and on the phone and they either don't charge it or drop the fee because I am on of their "top customers".

It doesn't look like they charged me any fee. It's a unitary operation as far as actually changing the package is concerned. You de-select the old HD package, then you hit the "review order" button, which doesn't remove your channels, just presents you with a new selection list with the new price. Then you select the new package which magically shows up, then hit the "submit order" button. Until that point, you can cancel your pending changes.
