Wii u

Nintendo said today the price of the console isn't the problem, if it was then the basic unit wouldn't have been outsold so handily by the premium unit. They say the problem is all software and appear to be content going into the holiday just $50 cheaper than the PS4.

I agree that the $350 price point hasn't been their problem so far but it will be soon. People are willing to upgrade from basic to premium with slightly more storage and an included game for only $50 more. People will also be willing to upgrade from the Wii U to the PS4 for only $50 more. If they had this hard of a time moving systems when they were the only new box on the market things aren't going to get that much better after PS4 and Xbox One come out.

Except for the Nintendo super fans just about everyone seems to have lost interest in Nintendo. People kept saying things would turn around once the games like Pikmin 3 started to come out. The problem is that the hardcore fans who really wanted that game were a lot of the same people that have owned a Wii U all along. The Nintendo faithful never left but most of the average gamer base did.

Edit: After reading the rest of that article I just saw the actual sales numbers. Only 160,000 Wii U consoles sold world wide during the 2nd quarter. That is truly a pitiful number of sales over a 3 month period. It makes me think that it can't even be doing that well in Japan with those kinds of numbers.

One thing about Nintendo, they have always been innovative.Their have been some that they out innovated themselves, but they will be back in a couple of years,I have no doubt.

Yep. I just read that on IGN. The Zelda Bundle is definitely a better incentive than Nintendoland. I still would have liked to see them drop it to $250 though.

So would I. But tempting at $299, combined with selling our current Wii. I'll hold out for now, and see what happens around the holidays.

He just doesn't get it. Wii U cant even compete with 360 or PS3. What does he expect when One and PS4 is released!? My 11yr old plays both the Wii and 360. My 16 yr old? No desire to play any of the Nintendo titles mentioned in that article. If it's now $299 retail, maybe Amazon will have it in the $270 range. I see it inching towards that mark come holiday time.

He doesn't seem to realize that there's a difference between being a company man versus saying stuff that just sounds ludicrous. Obviously if he said, "Yeah, the other systems have a GREAT launch lineup!" that'd be bad as well, but he just should have bolstered the Nintendo lineup, which sadly is still very much lacking.

Speaking of, I'm SOOO glad that Ubisoft said, "Tough Sh*t" to Wii U owners and made Rayman: Legends a multi console release as opposed to a Wii U exclusive. Such a great game deserved to be played by more than the pitiful few that own a Wii U. It has also basically declared that there's NO business reason to make a Wii U exclusive nowadays, unless your business goal is to not recoup costs.

Me too. I just got the email alert from gamefly that Rayman Legends for Vita is on the way to my house.

And Rayman Origins on Vita will be free for Plus members next month! I never played a Rayman game (other than as a demo) before, but the reviews for Legends are telling me I need to start somewhere.

Rayman Origins is the best platformer I have played in years. It was great on the Vita. According to the reviews I read Legends improves on that game so I'm in.

Unfortunately it appears you're getting a reduced version of the game..

That really sucks. After reading more from a few different sources it sounds like what is missing is one of the challenge modes. All of the "story" levels are included in the Vita version. Still it sucks not to get the full package.

I Played a little bit of Rayman Origins on the PS3 before actually playing through the full game on the Vita. I kept hearing about how the Vita could give us console quality experiences in a mobile device but I had never actually seen it before playing that game. For my purposes the PS3 and Vita versions were identical both in gameplay and graphics. The only difference was obviously the lack of couch co-op. I don't think either version allowed online co-op. This made it a must have game on the Vita so I had really high hopes for Rayman Legends.

I'm sure it will still be a great game but it's disappointing to hear that I will miss out on one of the challenge modes. As Origins proved the Vita is fully capable of providing the same experience for that type of game. This makes me think that they simply ran out of time and the Vita version was the one they chose not to finish. Hopefully this means there is a chance it could be patched in once they have some more time to work on it.

They'd be very wise to provide it as free DLC, since Ubisoft promised that EVERYTHING from the consoles would be on the handhelds:

According to Ubisoft the newly announced Vita port will be privy to all the same the content as its sibling editions on the Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Here's a comparison video of the Wind Waker HD Remake vs the Gamecube original:

The graphical difference is major, but I'm not sure if a remake of a game from 10 years ago is really the shot in the arm that the Wii U needs at this point.

Just to put an end to this, Ubisoft has said they will patch the missing content back in, but didn't give specifics as to WHEN..
