Why is it....

It should be better said when there are 100 HD channels for them to add you might be in that home; however when there is 100, at least they will be the first to be able to offer them all.

Heck we go over this a zillion times.

The Scott is an E* guy so he focuses on E*.

DBStalk has a little more information so go there.

I think the only area this site lacks is a strong D* department.

FTA is covered well and the E* side is obviously strong.

I actually used to believe the D* is hard to get information from then I started READING throught the E* forum.

See D* came out and posted their plan a while ago and said this is what we are going to do and are basically running with it.

E* hasnt released a plan so I am wondering if they even have one.

Bottom line is if you want the most comprehensive D* information you have to leave this site.

HUH? I guess you missed the point.
It obvious that no matter what D* does it not going to make the front page, We are talking reporting news when it is pass down not just burying it, because I'm pro E, E pays me, or I make money off E. DBStalk reports news released from E. Just because Earl spends most of him time at Dbstalk and seeing how things are done here who could blame him. Dress it up how you want I'm done with this get your last word in.

actually, YOU missed the point - boston area dtv nailed it.

D* has a posted plan, and is acting on it. Is it really "news" when that happens?

E* is a more "seat of the pants"-type operation, so much more of the same stuff ends up being newsworthy, because:

1) We can break it here first (usually)
2) it's actually breaking, unlike the umpteenth DMA from D* that they probably announced months ago, anyway, etc etc.

That being said, we're a site that relies on feedback from all of you (unlike some other sites I won't mention that would have locked this in a nanosecond). Want improvement? Suggest it. We have an advisory committee that looks at things exactly like this.

The one thing that does bother me however is Scott's posts.

IMO, and hell you can toss it out the window, he should be sitting back like the Godfather running this site. Its when he toss's digs at D* and D* subs that irritates me.

As a D* sub and someone who is a paid supporter of the site I feel like a sucker when the site I hand money too says things like, I could have all of the same information and contacts that the guy at DBStalk has but I dont want to, or when in fact there is pertinent D* information such as NGHD being released, and yet there was no major blast.

People can hide behind the D* didnt give me a press release all they want but we all know thats BS.

The year old screen shot of a dish station on the possibility of MLB baseball wasnt news worthy. One of the members of this site said it was there for a year and yet someone posted it to hype up the E* subs. That was crap. Im sure you didnt get a press release from E* on that.

Its the members decision now. While this site is good at many areas the one it isnt is D* information or flag waving. If you dont like the slant then you dont have to come here.

Scott told you in post after to post, in thread after thread his stance, and now its up to you.

I guess on my end I get frustrated when I look at the buzz that D*s future plan sticky caused. I see the potential for this site to be the best all around site for Sat information and feel that this site is missing out on a huge opportunity to capture even more members thus making this place stronger.

OK, this is Scotts site so he can do whatever the heck he wants to do with it. He says that this is "America's Satellite Information Source" guess just as long as it's not concerning DirecTV. He said he didn't post a news item about D* launching four new HD LIL cities because he didn't get a press release. OK, so today he makes a new thread over in the Dish forum, http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=93585, which concerns AT&T offering free HD services for Dish, U-Verse and DirecTV customers (guess because AT&T got stuck with DirecTV in the BellSouth merger). Did he put a like post in the DirecTV fourms, nope.

I've been trying to give Scott the benefit of the doubt but if you want D* info the place to be is DBSTALK. Sorry Scott, just the way I see things going on here.

DircTV's new music channel is interesting. Reminds me of the old "The Box" network anyone remember that.

Sorry guys, I dont have directv, dont plan on getting directv. Personally I think DirecTV sucks. I wish you guys could have been at their CES press congerence as you guys would probably feel the same way about them after that conference as I do.

But with that said, my areas here that I cover are Dish Network and IPTV, not DirecTV, we have a DirecTV staff which does that stuff and we have just had a few new guys come on board to help with the the DirecTV stuff. If there is DirecTV news they can post it on the homepage as they all have access to it. (In fact I encourage them to)

Remember the name of the site is SatelliteGuys, not Scott Reports. I can only report on what I have (and I got to be honest I am actually not to keen on Dish Network, Uverse or even ITVN at the moment eaither) I can just do as I have always done and that is report on things that I deal in.

How could we feel the same way? When we are watching our MLB EI and NFL ST, which is what many of us have Sat for anyway. Truth is, if your a sat guy and you want these things, the other side really really sucks. I guess I don't understand the side taking. We are no longer comparing apples to apples. They bring 2 completely different things. So one can't possibly suck.

He is certainly entitled to his opinion. In my opinion its the other way around actually. No YES network (only the LARGEST RSN in the country with the highest ratings) and so on.

To each his own I guess. The ONLY problem I have is I know he wouldn't appreciate it if anyone went into the precious E* forums and said such stuff.

As for your opinion that D* sucks...well I think the photos of you accepting an award on behalf of E* pretty much exclude you from having any sense of objectivity regarding satellite providers.

Boston, I think you should cut Scott some slack on this. He did come out and spell out his feelings about D*, that be basically ignores them since he's not one of their customers, doesn't like their PR department, won't go back since as a former D* customer D* treats him like other's trying to return, no special deals. Scott does say there are D* mods that are free to post D* news when they get it but there really hasn't been any breaking news here besides what comes out on press releases, which anyone can get via Google when they are released.

IMHO you should do what I've done, made the other site my main source for D* news, hints, tips, help since they have a lot more active D* section there. Here when there is some activity it seems that a lot of it is D* vs. E* posts and it's getting to be a bit old. I do admit that I do pop in here since I'm still interested in knowing what Charlie and his gang is up to because who knows, maybe they'll come up with the killer idea that would make it hard to stay with D*, but it would have to be something REALLY good to make me switch, or hell has actually frozen over;)

Just me two cents.

I dont have an issue with this site being pro E* and understand the reasons why.

In my opinion Scotts missing the boat and could have a full comprehensive website. But again opinions are like...and he has every right to run things the way he wants too.

The shame of it is that in the D* forums when D* topics are being discussed its odd to see the E* shills swarm like maggots on a trash can.

Every D* topic turns into D* vs E*. Someone brings up the freaken Tennis Channel and the swarms of E* people came a running with their torches in hand.

Now to have Scott accept the award from Charlie just iced the cake. Scott is certainly allowed to have is opions but how can anyone really give them substance when he is all buddy buddy with Egren?

I agree with your statements totally.After over 4 years with E* I switched to D*.I found a"Black Hat"and a Home.:D

This explains completely why earlier when alot of us asked Scott about gaining info for us D* users, he was not interested.
True it is his site and can do what he wants, it would be nice if the owner would be abit less bias and send some (any ) info he may have about D*.

I really don't want to have to go to dbstalk just to find out what is going on with D*, when I started here I thought that D* was included.

Alot has been going on with D* and I and some others pass along what they can, pertaining to the HR20-700, mostly from experience.

I too wish we had more support for the D* side, that said, this is a great site, also one of the few that you can actually talk to the owner and have some input into the site if you wish to do so. :)

I do think it is a valid question as to why less Direct TV news. You can however ask the reverse of another site, which I also read and post at. But the real answer to me is the huge difference in mangement of the two satellite companies.
Having a plan and saying you are implementing the plan is no big news.

Sticking your neck out about distants and resulting court action is big news. Completly outwitting your competition and getting distants available to more households than had no lawsuit been filed is huge news. Having programming different than most providers such as Superstations and a wider variety of foreign programming brings questions about that programming and thus is news. Launching two satellites for complete Mpeg4 service is news, and what it means to current receivers. Heck, Charlie himself is news. Dishnetwork has been and is seen by many as sort of a maverick company. That is news. I don't think Direct TV has nearly as many new receivers over the years as Dishnetwork. For better or worse (sometimes better sometimes worse) Dishnetwork receivers have been the focus of many posts while until recently there was hardly anything to say about Direct TV receivers. Controversy seems to make news.

It sure is interesting if Dish is making all this news. How come when the news talks about satellite they talk about Directv?.You hardly hear anything about Dish.
I find that very interesting.

I didn't accept the award, I gave him the award. :)

I honestly dont care for DirecTV's current management. However when Liberty Media takes over that could all change. I have known Dr Malone for years.

I am here to support the industry but I dont follow DirecTV as I am not a DirecTV customer.

And if you read the Dish area you will see I blast Charlie when hes doing something I think is stupid.

Just calling it the way I see it, its what I wanted to do when I started SatelliteGuys and its still something I do today.

You will notice that when you speak bad of any company we don't delete your posts or ban you because you say something bad about them. We want you to share your honest feelings here. And thats what makes us different from everyone else. And its a difference I am proud off. :)

Bingo, we have a winner. :)

Up until the HR20 out most DirecTV receivers worked and were bug free. The old joke here at SatelliteGuys is DirecTV folks are happily watching TV, while Dish Network customers are here at SatelliteGuys trying to figure out how to watch TV. :D

Ok Scott I can accept your explanation. Look I always understood why there isnt a ton of D* content here and always believed you should be able to do things the way you wanted to.

I hope you can see where a D* sub and a sub to Sat guys would scratch his head and say look Scott is all chummy with Egren and E* that explains the pot shots.

I sometimes venture into the E* and actually I think if you go over my posts I DEFEND E*. When some E* subs were complaining about no NESN HD..(a couple of people pmd me about D* having it too) I thought the peopel should just hang on a bit becasue Im sure E* would add it soon.

Ultimately I feel both E* and D* will probably end up with very similar technology, PQ, and hardware. There may be minor differences in programming when all is said and done but I dont think the differences will be major.
