Who here streams a lot but still prefers physical media?

Prefer physical media - yeah just a bit! We still stream though (at least until we can acquire the physical media). Our LPs, 45s and cassettes are not pictured but there are a few open reels in there by the CDs. And yes, I have hardware for all of it including Sony and Toshiba VHS recorders, a Sony 200 CD changer, a Sony 400 DVD changer, a Sony dual cassette recording deck, two Webcor vacuum tube open reel players, a Channel Master 8 track recorder and a Zenith drawer loading linear tracking turntable.

That is true! From the old BBC All Creatures Great & Small to mysteries, comedies, dramas, sci-fi and old & modern horror films, we have varied tastes. As far as music we prefer classic rock but also like some hard rock, country, classical, etc. Can't say we are not open-minded!Your tastes are quite, um, varied!
And he’s got one of the spheres from one of the best Sci-Fi Thrillers in existence! “Phantasm” was my favorite example of that genre until “Cabin in the Woods”…
I still have my Pioneer DVL-909 Laserdisc and DVD combo player. I’m bummed I never bought the AC-3 RF decoder box for it since my Marantz AVR of the time had it built in, but now that feature is no longer a feature, so many movies won’t play the awesome Dolby Surround from the era.
I’ve got the Star Wars trilogy (back when there were only 3 Star War movies) without the “upgraded” SFX. I have the animated Star Trek series (with the Larry Niven crossover episode with the Kzinti!). Multiple copies of “Beauty and the Beast”, including the pencil test limited edition. Thomas Dolby “Blinded me with Science” mini-LD. Lots of goodies that didn’t make it into the cloud.

Yep, one of my all-time favorites. I bought that from a seller in England. It's not only the sphere - it also has the first four films and a bonus content disc inside on DVD. The format is PAL but I have equipment that will play them. I also have the limited-edition steelcase blu-ray of the original Phantasm. Also, thank you for reminding me. I purchased Phantasm V: Ravager on streaming but had never acquired the physical disc. Just ordered it on blu-ray so that is rectified!

That sounds really cool! I did not know those dual units existed and laserdisc is one of the few formats I don't have. I may have to bide my time and pick up a nice used one on eBay along with a few discs to add to my collection.
Keep an eye out there as someone may list that AC-3 decoder you don't have yet.

I have about 50 dvds. Just the other day, I got one out that I bought new, but had only played once. About half way through, it froze up and after cleaning it and etc, I never could get it to play past the freeze point. Waste of money. I like streaming. I never touch the disc surface, always handle with edges.
Never realized AC3 was a big thing. I remember some old FTA channels were marked AC3 audio. My old Philips FR965 (from a roadside pile) would decode it automatically.
Yep, but that’s a Japanese market unit (100 VAC) and pretty pricey. The Yamaha unit I was looking at before was $149, but I’m sure everything has its price now.
I think it was titled, “The Variable Weapon”. Or, it was based on the same concept of a Slaver weapon from Niven’s stories.

Thanks! And it is still growing. My wife just bought some more DVDs today. Only a few shelves left and it will be time to buy more storage cabinets.
Is this like the one you saw before? It's 120VAC but looks like it has seen better days cosmetically.

Only thing physical about my collection are the 300TB of hard drive storage it currently takes up for the primary and the backup. With my dads recent passing, I've been cleaning out a lot of stuff as I went thru his stuff and mine and decided what I was keeping and what to give away/recycle/trash. I did come across a box in my media closet with some original VHS of Star Wars, some dvds, cds and the Star Wars LaserDisc collection.
