This is just sad and unbelievable. What a time to showcase HD, the Olympics and a great rivalry. Talk about just plain flubbing the living crap out of a golden opportunity. There's lots of blame to go around on this. Of course the simplest thing would have been for Directv to offer MSNBC in HD. Way to go...

DTV really just lost a huge proponent. I pay for center ice, love hockey, and now i cant watch this game in HD,not to play the worlds smallest violin, but i feel pretty disgusted that nothing came out of this, other than the same old stuff. Thanks DTV for letting me down

Actually the blame should go to NBC themselves.
They should have had that game on "Live" on thier NATIONAL network available on a FREE channel. PERIOD.

It was good the US-Canada game wasn't on NBC. Would be tape delayed on the west coast.

Damn right....but when DTV constantly preaches how they are the HD leader, blah blah blah, then they fail to carry an HD channel that every one of their major competitors has then THAT is the problem.

Furthermore, how long have they known that MSNBC would be carrying Olympic coverage and failed to get the HD feed, even if it was for 2 weeks?

Thank God for the 30+ PPV HD channels they offer though.

What a joke.........

Again, not carrying the lowest rated cable news channel = not being the HD leader?

YES. When you fail to carry a channel in HD that will run Olympic programming that all your competitors have then you shouldn't call yourself an HD leader...why is that so hard to understand?

Don't wanna carry MSNBC HD fulltime?? Then at the minimum make some arrangement to carry the HD feed during the Olympics to appease your customers and not look like a bunch of greedy b*tches.

Its 2010...HD channels should be the norm, not the exception.

So the fact that they have NASCAR HD channels that nobody else has, NFL HD channels that nobody else has, MLB HD channels that nobody else has, MLB Channel in HD that many others don't have, means they cannot be called the HD leader (at least in sports)?

One channel does not mean one is or is not a leader in anything. Why is that so hard to understand?

I agree ......

Why do they charge extra for HD access if it's the norm ?

In this case it does. When an event as popular as the Olympics is occurring and one already carries the SD version of the channel, a LEADER would find a way to carry the HD feed....especially when it is obvious they had YEARS to plan for this.

Funny you praise them for being the HD Sports channels leader and yet DTV fails to deliver complete HD feeds for a sporting event of this magnitude...the channels you mentioned comes down to "exclusivity"....MSNBC is hardly exclusive which makes this situation even more embarrassing for DTV.

The NFL and MLB channels are getting a workout right now...no bandwidth for MSNBC HD I suppose.

Particularly when the channel in question is NOT a Sports channel ...

I still fault NBC for this .

And the popular sports are put on NBC. Very few people are watching MSNBC for the Olympics. Making MSNBC an HD channel for a few programs during the year, when these programs are still not increasing their ratings very much, and when few subs even have HD programming, is not that important.

I understand you guys want it and it would be a nice addition for the Olympics, but their are probably other priorities now.

That is the issue. The magnitude is not that big. Most people are watching the Olympics on NBC, not MSNBC. Again, most of those watching don't even have HD.

MLB does not use any additional bandwidth as the HD feed is already occuring on CONUS 24/7 through the RSN feed. The NFL feed could be used for additional bandwidth, including putting a temporary HD feed of Olympic broadcast from MSNBC or even putting this channel up full time. It is not that simple. There are agreements and contracts that must occur
