I had a 501/508 dvr for many years very reliable, no dvr fee either. I know you said it doesnt matter about being a dvr but it was reliable.

You can get a 311 or 301 single receiver. Those are pretty solids and they have S-Video and composite that makes SD look good.
Now how would that do him any good? He is asking about a box to LEGALLY receive Dish Network signals.

Seems like they have 301's on ebay for mid $30's. I think I bought one of these from Radio Shack for a xtra box a couple of years ago when I had DIsh in my previous town. That would serve me fine, I have ota but would like to have access to sat channels for the few days my 622 would be down.
So the 301 would see the sats thru my 1000.2/500 without issue?

Also, I see some auctions that state no smart card. I need one with a card correct? Or can I take the card out of the 622?

You can not take a card out of 1 box and put it in another. They are "married" to the box. So you want to make sure that you get one with a card. And yes, it will work just fine with your 1000.2 setup (but you won't see any of the HD channels obviously).
The 311 has the card built-in, the 301 doesn't. I would go with the 311 so you don't have to deal with the smart card, specially since you want to get them on eBay.
if you take your time, u might be able to pick up a 211 on ebay for about 100-150 then your never without your hd lol.
Yes, in fact, one annoyance is that SD boxes do not show listings for HD channels that you subscribe to. So, when I am not in the living room, and using the 721, I cannot check the Guide about what will be showing in HD in the future.
