What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?

Well, I'd love to get HD's take on this, but I can't find him. Was looking for him all day yesterday after the trade. He must be driving the U-Haul full of DeRo's stuff out to St. Louis for him.:p

I was gone all weekend. Took a trip to visit some familia in Upstate NY (Syracuse area).

As for the trade.... We do need a reliever and Chris Perez does have a nasty fastball at 95 mph. While I expected more in return, as you've said before, unless we traded DeRo this year, we would've ended up with nothing if he walked.

Personally, I loved DeRo and hate to see him go. He represents everything that is right about Baseball. I was still holding onto the hope that we would've offered him an extension instead. My guess is that he will be wanting a big-raise come this offseason and our club has more glaring holes to address.

Update: Chirs Perez made his Tribe debut last night. After he took the mound, Perez proceeded to hit the first two batters and walk the next one, while allowing 4 earned runs in 0.2 innings. Perez's ERA with the Tribe is now 54.00! THIS IS WHAT WE GOT FOR DERO?!!!! WTF?! BAD FIRST IMPRESSION!

I SAW THAT! I was flipping between game and saw him come off the mound. My heart bleeds for ya, brutha.

Upstate NY is perfect in late June! Hope you had a nice time.;) Only thing better is visiting The Finger Lakes at the peak of Autumn's beauty.

I think our bullpen woes are contagious. It doesn't matter who comes out of the pen, they all do miserably. It's really quite amazing.

It was a nice time. Weather was a humid 80°F, but all was right in the world when I got to visit my Uncle Guy's place and was treated to a homemade Lemon Ice. :hungry:

i was just going to post how well Perez is fitting into our bulelpen... :( :(
you guys beat me to it.

Oh great! Just f*n great! Seriously, can this summer get any worse?! :(:(:(:river
I love Victor, but if we could get the two studs I named above (and I think SF would be crazy to do it, but you never know) I would pull the trigger.

We have Carlos Santana already as our future C. I'm not sure when V-Mart's contract is up, but I can't see them being able to shell out the dough to keep him.

MAN! Since HD went into hidng, I had to dig DEEP to pull this one out.

Shapiro made it official this A.M. Wedge and staff will stay onboard for the remainder of the season.

I must have missed something. Where did HD go?

I wouldn't say HD is hiding. He posted just over an hour ago on the Wimbledon thread.

He's probably either getting lunch or watching the All-Star Selection Show.

To me, this decision means that they've given up on the season. Why delay the inevitable? It's clear this team is being lead by a lame duck coach. Maybe if they just get it done with and fire Wedgie already, some of these guys can relax a bit instead of pressing to try and save their coaches job.

For instance, last year, everyone in the clubhouse knew Sabathia wouldn't be resigned and '08 would be his last season as an Indian. The team pressed at the beginning of the year and it was clear there was a mental distraction by the Big Fella's future looming over the club's conscious. Then he was traded and the Indians played the best baseball in the MLB in the 2nd half of the season. There's no other excuse to explain this phenomenon except to conclude that the team was distracted. I think the same thing might be part of the problem this year...

I dug up the exact quote...
“As I said all along the responsibility for the disappointments of the season don’t rest on one person,” said Shapiro. “The responsibility is spread equally throughout — the players, the front office, Eric and his staff.”

“This is not a vote of confidence, nothing has changed,” said Shapiro. “I have the ability to be decisive about this right now. I want to eliminate distractions and make sure there is accountability.”
I can’t say that I am shocked, but I will say this - Mark Shapiro could be making a colossal mistake, one that could cost him his job, by continuing to hitch his wagon to a manager who more than likely won’t be around after the season. The longer Shappy sticks with Wedge, the less credibility he has.
