What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?

I like to compare my love fest with the Tribe by the lyrics of this 'ol song....

The summer wind, came blowin in - from across the sea
It lingered there, so warm and fair - to walk with me
All summer long, we sang a song - and strolled on golden sand
Two sweethearts, and the summer wind

What? No midgies???? No huge flocks of seagulls??? :D

SPORTS TIE IN: I remember when Mr. S's recording of "Summer Wind" was the soundtrack of an MLB advertisement a few years back. Fabulous recording!

Who is this Sinatra guy you speak of.:D

Funny, but I got all misty-eyed for a minute watching the Wings-Pens game last night. The old arena in Pittsburgh is probably one of the last ones still standing where Mr. S performed. I saw him there "center ice" one evening when it was still called the Pittsburgh Civic Arena! :up

I've got plenty of Sinatra in my collection. My oldest boys can't stand it when I play him on Sunday mornings.

They will grow into Mr. S as time goes on, Dad. Just keep playing those recordings. They'll remember you for it long after you've gone. ;)

I was raised on "Sundays with Sinatra" from Sid Mark on the radio back in Philly. :)

Saw him sometime around the early 80's at the Fox Theatre. My first wife and I took my parents for their wedding anniversary. Wish I could have seen him in the "salad" days.

And soon it will be torn down.:D

I did see my first concert there, 1984, jr. in high school, I saw Motley Crue and Ozzy.

Back to the Indians....

With the Tribe continuing to flounder (22-32, eight games back) and the injuries mounting seemingly on a daily basis, not one, but two different national websites have begun the calls for GM Mark Shapiro to start an Indians fire sale.

Tom Verducci of SI.com weighed in on the reality that the Indians need to face:

Here are the facts. There have been 104 teams to make the playoffs in the 13 full seasons of the wild-card era. Exactly three of them, or 2.9 percent, were worse than five games below .500 when June began.
This piece also had an interesting quotes from Shapiro:

“Up until very recently we were more in the mode of looking to add,” Shapiro said. “I’ve probably slowed the effort to try to acquire. We’re probably more in the middle ground right now. People may think we’re crazy, but we still like the core of this team.”
Top National Sports blog The Big Lead piled on as well:

DeRosa will definitely go with the right offer, but Cleveland has, thus far, been reluctant to even float Martinez and Lee. Cleveland may not get back into contention this season, but the salient issue is 2010. If the Indians feel poised to make a run next year, it makes sense to keep Lee and Martinez with their sensible club options. If, however, they feel they are two to three years away, it would make more sense to deal and restock their talent pool.

V-Mart is my favorite player on the team....I'd be really sad to see him go. I think Dero and Pavano are locks to be traded this year.

Lotsa talk about DeRo going back to the Braves which he would love as he lives outside Atlanta. Atlanta has pitching to give up, but does Atlanta want to negotiate with DeRo for after this season?

Who do you think is going to get taken out tonight?
Any odds on the Yankees kicking butt tonight too?:D
Maybe we will we have a riot tonight!:D
