Good response. Voom is not some kind of global conglomerate that's out
to get anyone here. They are doing business like anyone else, and if
they advertise on the webforums, more power to them. My previous unsent
response to the original poster about how voom sucks because they don't
have a dvr was a little more to the point. Basically I wish they had a
dvr and am a little unhappy about it, but at the same time I bought into
this thing and I knew what I was getting. Asking how many times they
lied is a stupid question though. I guess if they announced something
and never produced it, you could call them liars, but the original
poster inferred kind of that voom was holding out their dvr for some
nefarious purpose and that's just frankly silly.
My second or maybe initial post to this forum raked voom over the coals
for other reasons which were somewhat tainted by my appreciation for the
TiVO interface, which I still feel strongly about. In this day and age
the guides these STB's have (Comcast, Voom, even DirecTV's non tivo
stuff) should be flexible enough to search for stuff in the future, and
the days of only 4/5 channels per a page because of crap video are kind
of over. I was especially disappointed in Voom, given their service is
touted as an almost boutique like HD service.
3 months into my Voom service, I have to admit it's grown on me. I
still dislike the guide and it's scrolling bugs, but I'm totally into
the content now. I spend a lot of time watching shows on Rush, and the
other channels. At first glance it seemed like it was mainly B movies,
and that is probably the best assessment of them, but there are jewels
in the ruft occaisionally, and given my scarce viewing time because of
work, I've not been bothered by the fact that shows are replayed on the
channels throughout the day, and in fact kind of appreciate that given
the lack of a DVR. I've also noticed that I don't watch any SD channels
anymore. Sure I make a point in watching Battlestar Galactica, but the
good stuff is on the HD channels.
I totally agree about the web forums as well. I know they are just a
means to get advertising dollars for the hosting provider, but I find
them difficult to navigate, search and basically slow. avsforums are
annoying as hell as well, but I've not spent any time to determine if I
can't get those via email.
