That's not surprising. You're comparing two different things. Those
mobile trucks usually lease some frequency for the duration of their
transmission. It's not always Ku-band like your small 18" dish, and
the larger dish is needed to operate in C-band. Also, the sheer size
of a large dish makes it perfect to be a large metal sail, and those
mobile trucks don't have the same supports that you'd get if you sunk
a pole down into some concrete like you would in a permanent
installation. We've had problems with 1.2m dishes that we attached on
the top of an 18 story building that needed realignment in a storm
with 60mph winds.
