VOOM Installations

Well that's excellent news! Do you see any disadvantage to trying it this way?

If there is any signal loss, how low is ok?

I'm actually going to attach it to the wall up high. It's ok for me to put stuff up inside, but outside is owned by the building, not the condo owners.

Don't know Mike since I haven't done this. I guess you will need to try it and find out. If you do this, please let us know as we would like to know as well.

Mount it outside the window and then find someone who is an artist and have them paint the dish disguised as a fat round Pigeon. :)

How do I find out who my installer is going to be? The CSR for Voom couldn't tell me.

Call Installs Inc, 888 987 3474. They won't let you know who the installer is but you could tell them to have the installer call you.

Sean - I'm curious, since I also had Adant install mine -- is your installer's name David? He did pretty good with my install.

Sorry not sure what his name was. He was a young guy probably around 22. Did a very good job. WBBM comes in just fine all locals perfect, better than i expected. No problems to report other than the fact that they came with only one box. Diplexor does not seem to be an issue for me, they were very aware of potential problems and it looks like they have it solved, of course i am only about 4 miles from the towers. Over all very impressed with adant and voom service so far.....cancelled comcast and gave them back the S*it they make you use!

I had my install today.

Two room setup. The whole thing took over three hours. These guys said they had done a bunch of voom installs -- even did the setup for the sears store. One of them had a voom hat on.

Everything went well except I can't get my locals -- and I'm only about 15 miles from the towers. I have a pretty big OTA antenna on my roof from the previous owner. They asked if I wanted that hooked up instead of the stealth and I said whichever one they think would work better. They decided to hookup my rooftop (no diplexers).

When they left they said that the locals would come in after a few hours because it had to download but now I think he must have just meant the guide info.

They left me the stealth antenna -- but I'm not much of a handyman and the roof is pretty high and steep so I don't know if I want to get up there and see if that works better. Do you think I can call them back to hook up the stealth instead of my rooftop antenna?

rollerfink,

which channels are showing in your PG as locals. Go to this site and find it voom has mapped your locals - enter your zipcode.

Sean, I think they have them all mapped correctly. They are showing in my channel guide just as listed on antennaweb -- but mostly they have no picture at all, a couple it comes on for a second or two and then drops out.

WWJ-DT 62.1 CBS Detroit MI 294° 12.9 44
WTVS-DT 56.1 PBS Detroit MI 294° 12.9 43
WKBD-DT 50.1 UPN Detroit MI 295° 20.4 14
WDWB-DT 21.1 WB DETROIT MI 294° 12.9 21
WXYZ-DT 7.1 ABC Detroit MI 295° 17.1 41
WJBK-DT 2.1 FOX Detroit MI 295° 15.2 58
WDIV-DT 4.1 NBC Detroit MI 301° 15.3 45
WADL-DT 39.1 IND MOUNT CLEMENS MI 18° 11.4 39

Select any of them that you are sure you should get and press VOOM button then green button. Select System Settings. Select #7 and scroll down to third page and see what is the Off Air Signal Power.

It sounds like you are not getting any power on them. Also check that the antenna is connected to the OTA module and not the UHF input on the back of the receiver. I'll try to get you a picture.

Yep, it's plugged into the right place.

On channel 4 my off air quality ranges from 13 to 20 and my off air power hovers around 20-22.

My sat signal is 55.

It looks like the antenna is not performing very well. You are not getting enough power. It should be around 60 (power) to get a lock. Are you sure that is pointing in the right direction? It needs to be pointing towards the transmitter.

No. I have no idea which way it's pointing. It's a big one that looks kind of like this...except I don't think mine has the white pointy part sticking out the top :)

Sorry I'm a bit of a spaz when it comes to satellite and OTA -- I've always had cable.

That's a good antenna. It is the RS antenna with a range of 65 miles. It is the same one I have but it is highly dirrectional. Meaning that if it's not pointing to the correct dirrection it will not pick up your signal.

Go to www.antennaweb.org and enter your address. It will give you all the OTA stations, select digital only and then click on "View Street Label Map". This will give you a good reference where your transmitters are located. Let me know what happens.

Thanks. This is gonna sound stupid, but which part of the antenna has to point in the direction of the tower? Is it like an arrow?

The V shape part of it. I guess that looks like an arrow. :)

Thanks, maybe I'll climb up there tomorrow and play around with it.

Ok. Not to create any confusion here is part that needs to point to transmitter.

Yes, I think that's your problem. Once you are able to rotate to the proper location you will get your locals.
