When I called and canceled my sub to E* this past Sunday and they transferred me to Customer Retention, I was told that VOOM was being replaced by IFCHD. That this was going to happen in the immediate future.

Close, but no cigar. IFC HD is no substitute for VOOM. Sure, their content has become more diverse than just indie movies, but they include a lot of crap. They are currently (re)running a documentary following a mentally handicapped rock band. It is crap. They run two or three Asian Grindhouse movies. With VOOM we had 24 hours of Asian Grindhouse. They run one monster movie every three months.

Condradulations on your cancellation. Hope you have FIOS access.

I am mad about Voom as well but I am trying to take what I can get and hope for the best.

Sounds like a better plan than just complaining that VOOM is gone and nothing else will do. Unless you live in a cablevison area it is unlikely that you will see VOOM for awhile.

I told them that the reason I was cancelling E*, after 11 years with them, was because they dropped VOOM. That's when they told me that they were replacing V* with IFC HD. I then said, "You're telling me that you are replacing 15 channels with 1 channel?" They then offered me $10/mon off for 12 months, and I said no thanks.

No FIOS option for me. I made the switch to the evil empire, over to D*. Got a huge discount package, about $1000 off over 2 years. My only other option was Charter Cable.

"Immediate" future? Did someone think up a new word for "soon"?

Lets see if Voom is even on Cablevision next Tuesday.

Haven't posted in a while. Just logged in to say the loss of VOOM is the loss of a lifetime. We won't ever see it's greatness again, and that loss is the death of true HD as I ever knew it. The regular networks will pick up their game and give us "better" HD over time, but I honestly feel we lost the most true HD we've ever seen.

I hope that the Voom programs that repeated over and over, but were timeless, will begin to make their way to other networks as "new" shows. I could see Smithsonian and Discovery buying some of the content. How can they not make it for sale eventually? After that, it all runs dead. 720p and upconverts for everyone.

Edit to say: The HDNET, HD whatever channels are holding strong with the good HD, but how long until Charlie decides they aren't good money makers either and dumps them under some legal dispute? Seems precarious to me. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

I love how their math works replace 15 channels with 1, they dont have a clue.

Its Newmath. They are slowly doing away with Oldmath. Eventually Oldmath will be removed from all existing records until newmath is and always was the only math that exists.

That is until they dont like Newmath anymore and it also becomes Oldmath.

Yep, it's give us downgraded HD... get used to it ... give us worse HD ... get used to it ... finally we're all sheep and asleep and everything is fine. Enjoy your soft-glow HD because it fills the 16:9 aspect ratio and we're done. Thanks everyone, can't remember how good it used to be. Thank God we have TBS.

Just FYI: with 1,375 replies and counting this is now the longest thread in the entire Dish Network section of our forum! ;)

If something doesn't happen by the time football rolls around (meaning anything "new" to keep the interest) then you can stick a fork in Dish Network, they're done... I wish Ch 152 which used to be CSTV now CBS something was in HD. That's a damn good college football channel.
