VOOM Goes BOOM - update Dish Drops all 15 VOOM Channels

I AGREE, I prefer no commercials during movies but at least Universal HD in uncut.

Commercials suck even with a DVR. Why not keep the 5 best Voom channels and spread the rest around. 5 is easier to market than 15. Out of Voom I probably watch Monsters 80% of the time. The rest is just to kill some time. The pq was awesome and something that isn't done correctly except maybe by hdnetM.

I have to think why both of us even remain E* subs. No Voom, no hd locals anytime soon, and maybe no IFC. I do really like the the dvr though and after a year my wife finally got how to use hers. She would not be happy if I switched at this point.

I remain because of the DVR and my contract, after my contract is up I will rethink everything. I know Dish will add more HD I just want to see what happens with Voom. My luck I will leave and they will bring them back.

I wouldn't - commercial voom would suck.

Horror is usually a mix of horror/sci-fi. I don't think Voom needs 2 channels for that. The one they had was fine with me.

I'll be switching to DirecTV when I move. More because they do not offer HD in Hawaii (I think 10 channels). I've said before, DirecTVs DVRs get software updates all the time. I think they just activated External USB Hard Drive storage recently. They are not that far behind in the DVR arena while Dish is way way way behind in launching birds which affects the future far more than a DVR.

I was with DirecTV before. If I had waited for DirecTV to catch-up with Dish four years ago, I would have missed years of Voom and years with the best available HD. Now DirecTV offers much more and has the ability to carry 150 HD channels. I have no problem signing an 18 month contract with DirecTV. It's going to take Dish at least that much time to catch up with birds anyway. If Dish ever becomes the HD leader again, I would switch back.

I have a PocketDish, 622, and 2 externals, but that's not worth more than programming and content IMHO.

Scott,

Have you heard anything about Dish getting IFC HD?

Do you think the voom issue will interfere with Dish acquiring Rainbow Media's remain HD channels?

I'm just guessing but I can't see how this situation wouldn't interfere with E* and IFC.

Rainbow has some nice channels, Dish needs to work out something quick because it looks like IFCHD and Voom will never happen.

Business is business. Its all about $. For the right amount of $ these slimeballs can make anything happen. And make no mistake about it these guys only care about the $$$$$$$. I think this was proven a few times in the last couple of months.

I think that if D* added IFCHD first many of us Voomers would finally kick E* to the curb. As of now D* does offer more including my locals in hd but with the addition of IFC that would be too much of a reason to keep E*. I still hate the fact I'm paying Charlie each month.

I am with you on this one, Directv has my locals and if they get IFCHD that will be a tough one for me when my contract is up.

My reason's to stay

Right now to replace a VIP 622 it takes 1 1/2 D* HD PVR's. Come sometime in Aug the 722k comes out, It will have 2 OTA tuners & 2 sat tuners. So then it will take 2 of the HR 21's to do the same. Which would cost me $300. The 722k will be what I had talked to E* advanced tech about them building when I had the 942 and it was being a problem. In addition to the new PVR by then E* will most like have 1 of their new birds up and early next year CIEL 2 will be up and running. So for me I see no real advance to go to D* for just a bit more of the same type of part time HD channels. Now if VOOM were to move to D* then I may rethink the decision.

That was my attitude for over a year now. Before the last launch failed and voom was removed.

I now am jealous of my friend's DirecTV service. I'm embarrassed for talking up Dish to my friend during this year, only to have them take away my reason for joining E* over D* in the first place. I kept telling him how D* is misleading people with their HD and Dish is not. That is no longer true, in fact it seems Dish is surpassing D*'s HD lies from before their birds launched.

Unfortunately, Dish lost my consumer confidence. Dish has a lot of stuff to get together that D* already has together. D* has birds, E* has promises. I also do not appreciate or trust a company that everyone is suing.

Besides, if the DirecTV DVRs now offer external storage ( I just confirmed this - in fact you could add up to 2T ), then it will not take 1 1/2 or 2 D* DVRs to equal one 622 or 722.

I could care less about Dish HD locals. They're available to me, but I use rabbit ears on my receivers. I actually watch the CW and PBS (plus my weather subchannel!).

Personally, I think 7 Voom channels would be good rather than 5.

I do agree that World Cinema and Film Festival could go away to IFC HD.

However, I would like to see the five that Dish kept for one day (Monsters, Rave, Rush, Equator and Kung Fu) plus Ultra and one more (although I never watched Game Play I will admit that it had content that no other channel did.) HDNews can go bye-bye with CNN, CNBC, Fox Business News and Fox News (eventually MSNBC, Bloomberg and BBC) coming online. I have nothing against Family and Animania but those aren't as unique as the ones listed above. Gallery and Treasure and pretty unique, too. However, I'm not sure if they can maintain a strong audience. I liked WorldSport. I can't imagine a HD sports channel not being able to make it independently. (I'm still amazed that ESPN was able to shove ESPN News HD down the throats of every provider in the country.)

Count tuners

The ext HDD won't add 2 more tuners to the D* unit.

I don't even use my 1 OTA.

I do use my PocketDish and I do find D*s method of transferring via PC very confusing and slow; not as easy as a 622 or 722.

Achos is not compatible with D* DVRs. I would have to go with an Ipod/Iphone (barf).

With so many features on both DVRs, some are important to one person and invalid to others.

Also, I own two 622s

I am considering keeping my Dish in Hawaii at some cheap $10 plan so my DVRs are active. Dish just cannot compete with DirecTV in Hawaii right now.

My future at dish lies in what they do with future birds.

When I called and canceled my sub to E* this past Sunday and they transferred me to Customer Retention, I was told that VOOM was being replaced by IFCHD. That this was going to happen in the immediate future.
