As an experiment I plugged in a non powered 4 port USB hub into the front panel USB port. I plugged a powered EHD and a Sling Adapter into the hub.

Everything works.

I may plug in two more EHDs and just be sure no more than one is powered up. And move it all to the rear port, which currently has a fan with pass thru USB plug and a turned off EHD.

Just thought I'd share.

Yep I've done that. As long as you don't have more than a single unpowered device hooked up you'll be fine.

Too bad I can't power up more than one EHD, like on the Hopper.

Hopper seems to be able to use more than one EHD through the same 4-way hub.
Generally I use one to the front and one of the 4 ports connected to the back.
The Hopper 2000 can recognize 3 EHDs. The third loaded is only available for transfers.
The disks should be named to keep them straight without needing to index them.
A third choice in the DVR menu would help too.
(Remember to unload them before the reboot or wait a long time.)
I have had several reboots from disconnecting USB or power to drives.
A "safe" unload please.
