About 6 months ago we upgraded to the VIP 622 so dh could have HD and I could have DVR. We have the one box, hooked to 2 tvs. We had them install our old box, in my son's room.

Son's room has been fine.

Right from the get go -- lousy reception on both tvs with the VIP 622. Especially HD. I avoided those channels as it would always cut in and out, and eventually get "acquiring satellite signal" over and over. But as long as I avoided HD channels and weather was good. It was ok.

I did call them several times about that issue. Always said it was the weather.

Now about 2 months ago, we have a constant "acquiring satellite signal" on the VIP 622. But in my son's room, his still works.

I've called and called and called. They say it's either something blocking the dish. But if thats true, why does my son's tv have signal?

I've been told, my switch box when bad and I need to replace. Been told this twice. Both about a couple hours after they told me this......my tv works again, so I cancel the service call (that they say I have to pay for). I'm told I'm out of warranty....but still locked into a contract with them.

Now.....for about a month....on the 2 tvs hooked up to the VIP 622 never work. Always "acquiring satellite signal". Sometimes if I unplug it, the tv will come back on for an hour or two. As of the last week, that no longer works.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.....give me some suggestions. $110 per month and no TV sure SUCKS!!!!

I've been reading and reading post here and other places....and I think I'm more confused now. I do not know what's wrong or how to fix it.

There is a long list of individual components that could cause your problem. Most folks with no experience at all would be well advised just to spend a few bucks and get it fixed by a local retailer.

Having said that, the first thing I would look at would be the peaking of the dish. Make sure that it is perfectly aligned (az and el) to the satellite(s) and well secured. Check the cables and connections from the LNBs to the switch and from the switch to the 622. Is there any RG59 in there? Bad connectors? Are there any diplexers, splices, ground blocks that may not be 2150 mHz rated? Are you running 2 lines to the 622 from your switch or are you using the splitter that came with the 622? There are many other possibilities.

In order to isolate the defect, you may need to substitute in known good spares.

Good Luck, Eric

The 622 often pulls programming off different birds, notably the 129, that the standard reciever will not access. If you have a dish 1000 the most likely cause is that it should be repeaked. The 129 is bad enough as it is, let alone being peaked wrong. Check your signal strengths to determine if they are low. If so you may just need to repeak the dish.

If the second (old) receiver is fine, then check the sat siganls on 110 and 119 on the 622. It is menu 6,1,1 to access that feature. If there is no signal on 110 and 119 I would check for a bad dish separator or diplexor in the line to the 622. The dish may also need repeaking.

Your dish probably needs to be re aligned. For the lousy picture, check here:

Do's & Don'ts

Let's get some readings from 119, 110 and 129 on the 622 receiver. We just need to know what kind of signals you're getting.

Go to Menu, 6, 1, 1, and select Transponder 11 for both 119 and 110 and then give us a few readings from 129. Transponders 30 and 19 are usually the highest and TP 6 and 11 are usually the lowest on 129.

If the signal readings are low then you need to re-peak your dish or have someone do it for you. We can help if you decide to try it.

One more question, where is the 622 located? These receivers get very hot and need ventilation.

I will try to fix this on my own. I think this is all a result of lousy installation. The guy was here ALL day and evening to get signal. And from day one, the signal has been in and out...but worse now. We live in a small town...and if I call for service, he will be the one to come back out. I don't think I can do any worse than him.

So I'll start with trying to realign first.

I'll report back with signal strengths etc later.

Does it get stuck on "Progress 0" when acquiring satellite signal, switching oututs from the separator to the vip 622 inputs fixed that for me.

Also try using the signal meter (menu > 6 > 1 > 1) and switch between Tuner1 and Tuner2 on satellite 129 Transponder 22 & 27 (the weak pair). I get between 12-15 and HD on those transponder works 99.9% of the time just fine (for me).

I have no signal on 129.

On 110 and 119 it varies from 50-60 signal strength.

Outside, it says I have a dish 1000.

When pointing dish, should the "dish system" be at 500? Or be set at "Super"?

VIP 622 versus VIP 625

Ticked about signal strength !!!
