So do I need a perticular package in order to get the HD Hockey games on 95 ?
From remembering last year, most on 95 said I did not have that channel, there \fore I was unable to view it.
Here is the way it looks like it will work, As 95 will probably contain RSN games as well as Versus.
1. Versus Telecasts:
If you have Versus in your regular SD package, you should get the HD game.
2. RSN Telecasts:
a. If the game is from your local RSN and you have it as part of your SD package, you should get it, in HD.
b. If you subscribe to Center Ice you should get it UNLESS it is a game that involves your local team and it is the telecast of the team that your local team is playing. They will then want you to watch the game on the SD feed or you may have the game on Channel 96, from your local RSN, if you have a H20 receiver.

Is channel 94ever used for anything ?
Also I show 97 and 98 on my guide, but it always says "To be announced" in the menu, I have never had any programming on any of the channels I just mentioned.

I see the same thing but if you are in area like I do, you could have two HD telecasts at the same time. Example: I live in the coverage area of The Panthers & The Lightning. Fox Sports Florida could have a Panthers game on 96 and Sun Sports could have one on Sun Sports and D* could use channel 97 for it. But the main ones they use now is 95 for national MPG2 transmissions and 96 for MPG4 spot beam transmissions.

Hope I didn't confuse you with that one.

Ok,
I have the HD game available to me on channel 95 currently, which I am glad to see ...however I think when my Rede Wings are on channel 95 I think I will be blacked out.

2. RSN Telecasts:

I get FSN Detroit by paying the extra $12 p/m in SD , but due to zip code restrictions I do not get the HD version .....

Yes, that is a national Versus game tonight. If you go to this address and plug in your Zip Code, it will tell you what RSNs and teams are considered your locals. http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=P3000004

The Sports Package is subject to out of your area, Pro Team Blackouts. If the Red Wings are not listed for your zip code, in the above zip code lookup, the only way you will see them is if you subscribe to Center Ice or they are a National game on HDNET or Versus. Then later in the season you might see them when the networks pick up the Saturday afternoon games.

According to that, if you have the RSN Sports package, you should get the Detroit teams. If you are not I would call D* and ask them about it.

I see that Fox Sports Detroit is broadcasting tomorrow nights game against Vancouver, in HD. If D* is broadcasting it you should get it on 96, if the above is correct, and you are entitled to Detroit sports.

By the way, here is the Red Wings Schedule showing their games that will be available in HD. But that may not mean D* will be broadcasting them though. http://msn.foxsports.com/id/5915334

Last year they showed Hockey in HD quite a bit, until December. It disappeared until the playoffs. DirecTV will show HD hockey to entice people to buy Center Ice but then take it away after the majority of CI sales are in.
Could be, they did that last year and ANY Colorado Avalanche game that was in HD (All 42 home games!!!!) was also blocked by D*. I finally quit complaining to them in December. I actually threatened to kill a CSR one night when they were on HDNet ... and only HDNet ... and I did not get the game at all, even in SD. I was asked at that point to stop. LMAO ... and you call yourself a fan! Of course I may have had a littte too much rum that particular evening.

If your zip code is in the zip database for LIL/RSN HD then your query will have the (HD Available) out to the side of each channel.

The 48201 ZIP Code is in the home team territory for the following pro team(s):

With any TOTAL CHOICE® package:

FOX Sports Net Detroit (Ch. 636)
# Detroit Tigers (HD Available)

Teams and ZIP Codes are subject to change. Blackout restrictions apply to regional sports networks. To view games of other pro teams (out-of-market) requires the purchase of professional sports packages sold separately.

The 10101 ZIP Code is in the home team territory for the following pro team(s):

With any TOTAL CHOICE® package:

Madison Square Garden (Ch. 621)
# New York Knicks
# New York Liberty
# New York Rangers
# New York/New Jersey Metrostars

Yankee Ent. & Sports (YES) (Ch. 622)
# New Jersey Nets
# New York Yankees (HD Available)

FOX Sports Net New York (Ch. 624)
# New Jersey Devils
# New York Islanders
# New York/New Jersey Metrostars

SportsNet New York (Ch. 625)
# New Jersey Nets
# New York Mets (HD Available)

Keep in mind that RSN's in HD (such as Fox Sports Detroit) are only available via MPEG4 in the Detroit HD local spot beam. So if your locals aren't Detroit then you aren't getting FSD in HD which would be on channel 96 or 97 (and require the 5 LNB dish as well as an H20 or HR20 receiver). RSN's in HD are not available nationaly, at least not until the next 2 sats go up next year.

Games *may* show up on channel 95. 95 is the "special events" channel and carry all kinds of different games in HD but certainly not all of them. There will mostly be NHL there now but once the NBA starts up then the NBA games will show up there as well and usually get preference over NHL, at least they did last year.

I have the MPEG4 set up HR20-700 and 5 LNB dish, I would love to actually USE it..
I do not pay for ANY LOCALS, If I want Detroit locals ,I turn my antenna slightly and I get ALL the Detroit locals in HD, except sometime channel 50 doesn't come in, but all others come in fine. I also get my local Toledo channels with my antenna, seeing D* only give you the big 4 mostly, it's not worth it to me.
I am close enough to the Detroit spot beam as I get signal strentgh in the high 90's on the two transponders that they are using.
Interestingly you mentioned channel 97, I do get 97 listed as an available channel in my guide, but 96 does not show up, 97 always says " To be announced" and 98 for that matter.
I am currently watching the Sharks game on 95 , but 95 is a MPEG2 channel, is is showing the game , No problem, but if the Red Wings show up on that channel, (last year) it will be blacked out. We will see IF the Wings ever show up on 95 again, I thought they were on tommorow night, but my guide says "Bruins and Panthers". So I guess I won't see the Wings there tommorow either.

Oh, I pay the extra $ 12 p/m for the right to watch FSN-Detroit (although the local cable company gives it to you free and it SHOULD be my local RSN included in the TC+ package, I am a mear 50 miles away, FSN that they give me is FSN- Ohio, ya thats local about 200+ miles away) Due to me being 500 feet inide the Ohio line on the Mi border, they list me as an Ohio zip code and the signal won't go another 500 ft accross the line .......

Detroit @ Pittsburgh is showing on my grid for Channel 95 tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Oh yea, can't wait to check that out when I get home and set it up to record. 95 had Penguins and Flyers last night.

I wish D* would do something with their EPG. Last night the Flyers-Pens game was the only one listed, but I heard today the Sharks game was on after it. I wish I knew that. Sometimes it is very frustrating the way that channel works.

It sure looks messed up alright. They are showing movies scheduled for 95. The same ones are scheduled for 99. The hockey games that were going to be carried on 95 have changed several times this week. The other day it was showing tonight's Panthers/Bruins game on 95 & 96. Now locally we just see it on 96, with no national game tonight on 95. Next one I see is Pitts/Detroit game tomorrow night.

Hope the new owners keep the team in Pittsburgh. That is a great hockey town.

My guide shows Blue Jackets vs Coyotes on monday as the next game on 95 (hockey game) Washington vs USC football appears to be on today as well.

I noticed on my guide Washungton-USC on 95 and Red Wings-Pens on 94. I wasn't home last night. Was the Bruins game on 95? I guess I didn't miss much based on the score, 8-3 loss, OUCH!

Nothing wrong with that loss.
