What all the X channels are for is nothing more than getting the subscriber's attention without them ever losing the channel itself. They move the big 4 networks from 119 to 110. Only those who do not have the capability to receive 110 will get a slate saying "your channel is moving you need a new dish, call us" They can watch their programming in the 9800 channel range temporarily until they get the upgrade necessary.

Forgive my ignorance, does this mean instead of moving the Houston locals off 129 to 100 and/or 119, that they've only moved them to a different TP at the same position? I'm going to become an E* subscriber soon and I was hoping I could get all my Houston locals with a 500 and avoid having to deal with 129 since I've heard so many horror stories about how hard it is to get a decent signal.

Yes, the Houston locals are going to move to 110/119 very soon. They are still moving things around in preparation for this. It is like a giant puzzle where you have to move a few pieces out of the way first before you can eventually fit the right piece in the right slot. It will take another month or three before everything is in place!

Are most of these HD LiLs that Dish has already launched actually transmitting digital OTA or have they just provided a direct link to "E"? In other words, is it probable that any / many of these affilliates are / can get their digital signals to "E" BEFORE they even have any OTA capability?

As someone from Vermont, you can see where I'm going with this. The Burlington DMA is on "E"s original list of 50 but aren't even transmitting digital yet.

The following appeared on the newly uplinked Dallas local stations, on both XWFAA and XKDFW (8399 and 8417)

"Your Dallas network channels will be replaced by networks from a different city effective May 17th. For questions call 1-866-567-7509"

Walt I had emailed WPTZ and WCAX awhile back about HD, The general manager from WPTZ led me to beleive they already offer the HD feed to Sat and Cable co. The impression he left me with was that included WVNY, WFFF and PBS

How long ago?

WPTZ has been passing on the NBC HD feed to their sister station, WNNE-DT (25) since last Summer which in turn is transmitting OTA from Mt Ascutney - pretty decent HD I might add. I wasn't sure if WPTZ itself was doing OTA to the Burlington area or even providing a feed to cable yet.

I do know WCAX-DT has had an "exclusive" HD arangement with Adelphia cable while apparently shutting out the rest of the world.

As for Fox & ABC up there, I wasn't aware they even had any digital capability yet, OTA or otherwise.

You list your location as Barre, so you probably have access to Adelphia, shich I hear has a lot of HD. I only have Charter and they have no plans to ever offer it around here.

I understand. Now that I have had the chance to absorb the changes and see them in context. It was fairly recent, as in since I got my 622. I had asked for a waiver if HD Distants were ever offered by Dish. And, i'm afraid I am stuck with charter also.

So Tony are you saying that Houston sd locals will be split over both 119 and 110 kind of like what they did with the New York locals?

Leave the majority where they are at 119 - spotbeam 5 and add the minor stations like religious and mexican to 110. This would make the most sense and would be a nice change to everyone when they turn on their sat receivers and see ALL of the sd Houston locals on their guide without a second dish.
