You're a smart guy Tony - any idea why these have been up there so long but Dish still isn't offering HD DNS? Especially since they even turned them on for part of a day when they launched the new "MPEG4" channels on Feb 2md.

Thanks, but I have no clue! :) Originally they were 100% tests. After that, I don't know why they have kept them there this long.

See ya
Tony

looking at this from tony's site, yes they can ;)

Here I come 'a correcting bob again ;)

Bob, that's a spot beam map for R!, and if you look the TPs listed are only ones that Rainbow had liscense to. The list of numbers is the spot number, not a TP.

And re: the empty TPs, all that really does is extend the doors that were already open. Dish has already been sitting on some empty TP space for a while, so they could've added some more HD markets on 129 and nationals on both if they wanted to, they just have not done so...

Empty TPs on 129

16,20,21,25,26,28,29,32
Since Dish will only be allowed to use half of the transponders at 129, when Ciel's satellite goes up, would it even be in there interest to fill all of them up to only move in a couple years? Granted the spots on the Ciel bird might accomidate what they fill up ConUS with, but that's an unknown.

Dish picked those up when they bought rainbow 1.. It was apart of the whole deal.
There were a couple that were never assigned to Voom that Voom was using..I dont think E* got those

Since 129 is operating at half-power with 32 TPs, is it possible that they will only use 16 TPs and operate the satellite at full power until the replacement is launched in a couple of years? or Am I smoking it too green here?

how can you own a sat but not all the TPs?

The same way D* AND E* both have x-ponders @110 & 119... ;)

Just because a bird is at a particular slot does NOT mean it necessarily has send a signal on ALL of the those x-ponders in a particular slot.

At 61.5, Tps 23 and 24 are not licensed to anyone. They have been assigned under Special Temporary Authority for some years. First to EchoStar as part of an STA to test their EchoStar 3 on all Tps. Then VOOM acquired the STA for the 2 unlicensed Tps(23 and 24) with strings attached. EchoStar may have been granted the STA with the sale of Rainbow 1(EchoStar 12), but the same strings may be attached.

Where is the report of the failure of Tp 26 on EchoStar 3?

The HD channels discussed earlier in the thread were never turned over to subscribers. The one exception is 9483 which has been CBS HD East for years and still is. The Mirrors which are now used as HD Locals did show up as HD Distants for part of a day. This occurence was most likely a failure to communicate within the EchoStar company. :)
