Scott - you need to get clarification of what is meant by "DVR Advantage is no more".
What exactly happens to customers with those packages ?
If they get charged exactly the same for their programming , but they now have a $6 DVR fee, then it is a $6 increase for their programming.
My total increase is going to be $33. $6 from losing the w DVR package, the rest from the higher fees for my 522s.
Currently I have
57.99 Top 200 W DVR
31.00 Premiums (Top 250, HD, Starz)
-3.00 w DVR credit
Total 85.99
With losing the w DVR, I lose the $3 credit. And I lose the premium bundle as HD and top 250 no longer counts towards bundling premiums.
62.99 Top 250
10.00 HD
12.99 Starz
6.00 DVR Fee
Total 91.98
I have three 522s because that is what Dish sent me when they made me get rid of my 721s. Up to now I have been paying $5 for each one. I was not getting charged the DVR fees due to the 721 swap. So for me the total fees are:
$5 X 3 = $15 (My primary receiver is a 722)
That will be going up to
$14 X 3 = $42
Total of $33 increase.
Looks like I'll be dropping Starz and the HD addon and just taking a $10 increase.
Although I do have a 508 in the closet so I could swap out one of the kids 522 for the 508 and save $7.
As to the reason for having the phone line hooked up come Feb 1st.
The pessimist in me says that the receivers will no longer work if you don't hook up a phone line or broadband.
The opptomist in me says the entire $14 fee will be waived if I hook up to a phone line or broadband.
Reality is it will most likely end up being something I don't care about.
