Trying to manually point a Hughes fixed dish at 79w.

Here is the only fta of what I'm on.

11980 H 29299 Winston Salem vs. Fayetteville U. basketball
12040 V 27599 Blomberg

Bloomberg with an SR of 27600 is on 85w. I'm not at my TV right now so I can't check the basketball game, but if you have a whole satellite full of encrypted 27600 signals, that's where you are for sure.

79w is a pain to find with some receivers because the low symbol rate of Telemundo can take forever to lock.

Wow I didn't think I was that far off. I knew Blomberg was on 85, I thought I found a duplicate service on another sat. But yes there was a ton of encrypted 26700 channels so you must be right. It started snowing like crazy when I was out there, I quickly peaked it up using just the spectrum analyzer and came in the house. I'll go out in the morning and push it to the East. Thanks.

The issue with 79W is there is only one 24/7 transponder on it

11903 H 2170
Telemundo (KTEL)

There are feeds on it sports wise..usually on weekends. Right now there are a couple on there (watching one myself...anytime a station has the word satellite in their name its worth watching...just to hear them say that) :)

Yes Ice, the various feeds I've been reading about made me think this sat was worthy of a fixed dish.
I'll try for KTEL tomorrow.

since you are on 85W right now you can try this...make a mark on the dish mast and on the bracket for the dish. From that marking on the mast move the dish 1/16" east (so the mark from the dish is about a 1/16" from the mark on the mast). You should be very near 79W.

Ok Ice, I moved it 16th of an inch this afternoon, it was right there. I didn't see much on the S.A. so I went in the house did a blind scan. Only service I found is womens basketball Delaware vs. ODU.

11870 V 13235

It is scheduled to be on this sat so I think I'm on the right one. BUT..I'm not seeing anything else. Not KTEL or Telemundo. Can anyone else take a look at 79 Ku see if any other service is up today.

This my first attempt to fit an aftermarket lnb to a dish. (Hughes Net in this case). I usually try to use the original feed designed for a given dish with good results. So I'm worried my home brew engineering isn't performing so well.

I do wonder about the signal strength from this AMC 2/5. What is this anyhow, two worn out sats joined at the hip for the remaining life?

11903 (can be anywhere from 11900-11904)
H
2170

Thanks Ice, your numbers are good. The blind scan skipped over it, maybe the low SR? But I have it now.

And just in time. The BB game just ended and is gone!

Only KTEL at this time. I've been wanting a fixed dish for this sat. Some good stuff comes along once in a while, and I could never find it with my movable C/ku dish.

KTEL is the only channel that I could find on 89.0°W

This seems to be a pretty good channel, if you speak Spanish. I am not sure what I am watching right now, but it is an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.

You don't need language translation with Arnold. Ha Ha! He never says much anyway.

I have KTEL at 11903 MHz SR @ 2170 Ks/s Horizontal. With blind scan on the AZBox, it didn't pick it up either. I had to enter it manually. The signal quality is kinda middle of the road for my system and location. 58-62% Q.

RADAR

radar, you meant 79w I believe....the knife show is on there on sunday evenings too, I think its on right now
Try 11935H 2403 another low symbol rate channel, but THE SOUND WILL BLOWYOU OUT OF YOUR CHAIR. Wish more channels put out audio like that!

After having a lnb go out on me , I'm re-doing 79w today. After manualy keying in the tp for KTEL it scaned in. I forgot the numbers for the gun and knife show.
