It seems that WGN America is the now (sorry Spike) official "Cops" channel now. I swear it's on every day for hours now. I guess they have to fill programming with something.

If you are talking about WGN America, it was actually added to the majority of (if not all) cable/IPTV systems IN the Chicago DMA as well around the 1st of this year, when they removed the rest of the Chicago content. Both satellite providers were already carrying it in the Chicago DMA for quite some time already.
WGN-A IS now considered a basic cable channel & NOT a superstation - just like what happened with TBS.
I have a hard time believe a website that anyone can edit (and the "fact" can't be supported from other sites).
Also, assuming this is a multi-year deal, is the increase amount from year one? Year three? All combined?
Wikipedia is useful when the articles are properly cited with sources. Otherwise, the info can be suspect. But it's not all bad like some like to claim.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to claim Wiki is all bad. I've used it plenty of times. However, I find the part quoted in this thread suspect (and there's no attribution on Wiki).
And I wasn't saying you were. Just in general I've seen too many knee-jerk reactions when Wiki is mentioned.
I know first hand from the owners, that 2 affiliates send 64% and 70% back to their Networks.
Yeah, that part is clearly too "opinionated" and someone will 'update' it. I've seen wikipedia add a 'comment' that parts of the article are "suspect" too.
I just edited that section of the 'retransmission history" to make it much less opinionated. I bet the person who created that entry changes it back !
Just like USA is the Law and Order SVU channel. I remember back in the day when these channels use to show action cartoons in the afternoon and good movies. Now all it is coptv and realitytv marathons. This is why on demand services like Netflix are becoming more popular.
That and Mr. Robot are the only things I watch on USA. And White Collar before it got cancelled.
Also since you can stream the earlier seasons of those shows on Netflix and Amazon as I watched all the seasons of White Collar on Netflix and never even tuned in on USA Network many cord cutters don't need the channels just for a few shows while most of the time they are just coptv realitytv marathon crap content.
Saw 10 minutes of the Seahawks/Vikings game on the NFL Network last night before someone at Dish went "oh yeah, we need to turn that off to the Northwest" and a box popped up saying that the programming was unavailable in my area... I guess 10 minutes was better than nothing...damn Tribune...
No longer do the viewers count. It is all down to money. I still feel, when these fights happen, Dish, Direct, cable should be able to import another station of the same network to cover the viewers until the issue is resolved. I am sure if that happened a company like Tribune would be much quicker to solve the issue. It is crazy we cannot have that. Again, it comes down to the viewer. If enough of us complained enough, something would be done. But enough don't.
Let's assume you get your wish. Wouldn't that give the MVPD all of the negotiating "power"? Yes, I think there are changes that need to be made to the current system, but I don't think importing distants is a good idea.
I wish WGN America would air the morning news as they did years ago. Supposedly certain national segments could not be shown outside the Chicago DMA, and also the morning anchors have a good sense of humor like the show. Now they don't show any of it and Cubs or Sox games. Dsh customers, it sucks your local WGN was taken down but WGN America is no real loss.
I am very aware of the complete history of WGN. I'm not understanding what you mean to remember there is a local and National channel.
Why would I refer to WGN Chicago, or why would DISH say a Network station in a local market isn't worth it? No one has ever said WGN Chicago is the problem.

Is 2.4 times a significant price increase? I’d say yes. Is it what they actually asked for? (Read my first sentence.) They are not negotiating in public, and neither company has stated what the DISH release called a significant price increases.
The years in deal are part of the negotiations and (as in the price) can change multiple times within the same negotiation section. “Assuming” the 2.4 times is correct it simply means over the same period. Whether it’s one, two, or twenty years it’s 2.4 times over what they’re paying now. (i.e. If they currently pay $300M over 3 years it comes to $100M/year. Multiple $100M/year times 2.4, and than by the number of years they’re asking for, it still comes to 2.4 times more.)
You may, or may not fine this interest but, my correction request to Tribune mentioning the 2.4 increase… I so far no denial email back from Tribune stating it’s incorrect. Does this mean it’s actually correct? ABSOLUTELY not! …But it doesn’t mean it’s wrong either.
