The YouTube TV Thread

I have posted here before the advantage of using gift cards to pay for OTT services and use them to get a discount on those services, every year between Black Friday and x-mas gift cards go on sale between 20% off ( itunes, google play, sony ) to 40% off (netflix, hulu, hbo, cbs, et), I stock up every year and plan to do so this year.

itunes for example this week are 15% off at Costco so I bought a couple of $100 packs to cover buying 4K movies, I also wait to buy till 2 weeks after disc street date, then itunes makes new 4K movies $9.99 which turns into $8.50 for me because of the cards.

Yep. I do this with iTunes as well. I typically save $10-$20/month on my Prepaid cell service by using refill cards that I buy on sale or BOGO. I also saved over $150 by doing this on my last Disney vacation. Costco, Target, BJs, etc. have good regular deals and often great sales on these.

I recall that Apple said somewhere around the introduction of the ATV 4K that they weren't going to charge a premium for UHD. Did they go back on their word or are all new releases $9.99?

You did not read what I wrote, I said about 2 weeks after disc ( not digital ) street date is when they put them on sale and no they do not charge a premium for 4K.

That you made an effort to note that what you were getting UHD suggested to me that the pricing may be different than other quality levels.

The guide issue may be fixed very soon, as there is a update on the way that changes it up somewhat. I do agree that is one issue with the service, but even as it is now, it is WORLDS better than it was before they added the guide they have.

This is what it will look like after the update. Still similar, but with more information, two weeks of program info, and the tabs moved to the side, with what hopefully is a customization "my channels" option.

Appreciate the post, that does look alot better, have you ever had audio issues with Hulu? I had channels that had different levels of audio which became a pain to constantly adjust back and again.

I personally have not, but after our last move I never hooked back up my surround system, and generally just use a sound bar. If there is a issue, I dont, or havent noticed it.

Well now that I am back with YTTV/w Starz for me I am back home where I belong.
That's the way a subscriber should feel about a service, then they know that service is the one for them.
It’s probably the best ott service available at the moment. I only swapped because the walking dead isn’t in season (not that it’s a huge draw for me at the moment), and I wanted hbo for GOT in the same app while it was available.

Hulu is cheapest for me, as I subscribe to Hulu anyway, so I don’t count that as part of the cost of live tv.

But the good thing about these for now, you can pick and choose as your needs change with no contract.

In that OTT is still finding its way, it may not be reasonable to assume that everything is now settled out and the business models are sustainable.

AT&T has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that an giant's demise can be accelerated mightily by not having a carefully thought out plan for long-term success.

Free Showtime for current subscribers through September 5th. :)
I probably should amend this to say free Showtime is being given as a special gift for select customers. I'm not sure the criteria, but apparently not everyone is getting it. It seems to be going to longer time customers.

Maybe the criteria would be those who were "grandfathered" at the $35 rate for a small while. I got the offer as well. I like that they also require you to sub after the free trial vs automatically billing you once the free trial is over. Completely opposite of what the traditional providers have done for years.

I was a previously grandfathered $35 customer. No Showtime offer for me. Not that I mind; I don't particularly care for Showtime.

When you go into your account, do you see how it's listed here for Showtime? I had to manually check the box. When I clicked the link in the email, nothing happened. I had to go into my account settings to activate it.

That worked, thanks. I like how it automatically cancels after September 5th.

The movie offerings on Showtime kind of suck, but I've been toying with signing up for the regular $7/mo price for one month or two just to catch up on Homeland (I'm behind two seasons) and check out some of the other new shows. Free is free. I'm getting 5.1 audio on my Roku 4640 by accessing the on demand version of content.

It still says for me 5 day free trial, but I have only had the service a couple of months now.
