The Walking Dead on AMC

Because with out hope of a cure or the eventual end of the zombies and a place for them to start over, the human race that was left would give up and eventually just end it. Without hope there is no reason to go on. That is true in any show and in real life as well. Besides they already came upon a scientist from the CDC in Atlanta in the first season. There is no reason why they couldn't come upon a government scientist who is working frantically to cure the world of the virus and they might know what caused it in the first place.

Watching a gore-fest each week is getting old and really only appeals to the lowest common element or baser instinct of the human race or viewers out there. It doesn't have to be more than a 5 - 10 minute conversation with someone in the know, who could fill the characters on the show in ,as well as the viewers like me who are interested.

Even on Resident Evil ,they still have the Umbrella organization still running things from behind the curtain and they know what caused it etc. They give you an explanation about the virus and you still get to see all the gore you like . All I am asking for was a little about what caused it, can it be cured and you could throw in some freebies like we have already talked about.

#1. Where does the human meat the zombies eat go ?-Since the zombies can't digest anything because they are DEAD?

#2 How long does a zombie last before it breaks down and rots to nothing but a skeleton?

Give me a little background story on these issues and I could enjoy the show more. Without it , it is just gory deaths one after another with a soap opera plot.

I guess I just don't see how knowing what caused the virus changes the show in any way. Even if they would have found out what caused this from the CDC guy back in season 1 how would anything be different? I don't see how them hearing how it all started would have changed anything for them. They would still be in the same situation they are now.

I guess it's possible that some genius could figure out how to make some kind of vaccine with no technology. Then what? How do you distribute that to small pockets of survivors living all over the world? Even if you can create a vaccine that stops the living from turning and find a way to mass produce and distribute that still doesn't stop the ones who are already zombies from eating you. The dead far outnumber the living at this point and there is no government or infrastructure left.

You don't like the show. That doesn't mean it only appeals to the lowest element of viewers. It just means it doesn't appeal to you. It's not just a gore fest. Gore is part of it but what you still don't understand is that the show is about a group of survivors living in a zombie apocalypse. It's about them not the zombies. The creators have said this in countless interviews at this point. A group of survivors living in an apocalyptic world is interesting to some of us even if there were no zombies at all. I loved Jericho and to me these are similar shows. You can take Jericho's nuclear attack and replace it with a zombie apocalypse and you get a pretty similar show.

I don't buy the hope thing either. Because you can't cure everyone else you don't want you and your family to survive? Sure some people would probably take the easy way out but that doesn't mean everyone would. If you live long enough eventually most of the zombies might decay to the point where they can't hurt you. That is probably the closest thing you are going to get to hope for society's recovery.

Well,we already know that the show and the comics, have deviated some.Who's to say that the tv version at some point, tells us the how and why of the virus.Would make for a decent ending.

You don't believe in hope? Tell that to Rick, who has lost just about everything in his world but Carl. He often is so despondent that he can't seem to go on. Remember the farmer thing? Why do you think Carl acts more adult and can shoot and kill better than some of the older members? He had to grow up fast in order to keep himself and his depressed father alive and going.

But you are right , I am not liking the show as much as I thought I would. I need more than the zombie kills of the week. I need the bigger picture and why it happened , what is going on in the world, are there any more people than them left, is their any government people living in that mountain in the shadow government left and working on some kind of cure, etc. Otherwise there is no real reason to root for these people if all is going to happen is they meet an occasional human survivor and then someone gets killed in a zombie attack and a bunch of zombies die each week. It's just pointless after a while.IF all I wanted to see is people fighting to survive each week I'd watch Survivor.

I have always liked Zombie shows and I have liked them because they almost always tell a reason why it happened and what they were doing to fight it and to overcome the zombie invasion. Like the original Night of the Living Dead in 68, it gave a clear reason why it happened: Venus probe brought back to earth had radiation that brought back the dead. They over came it by putting every guy with a gun out to shoot all of the zombies ,and unfortunately some of the human survivors too. The resident Evil shows started in the labs of Umbrella Corporation and spread outward to outside world. The show would be more enjoyable to me if they filled in some of the details of the mythology of why it happened , who is working to combat it , where all the zombies are at , if there are any places zombie free -Like in World War Z. And you can't say that there is no government left ,because they don't address it in the show. So they can always write this in if they wanted to, in order to fill in some of the blanks.

As for the Jericho show comparison, no I don't agree. This show had a reason why it happened, who was behind it, and what was left of the country and whether the U.S. government was still in existence . They gave details over the life of the show and tied up all the loose ends and gave us closure at the end. Just like any good story does. That is all I am asking to make it more enjoyable for people like me and I am sure there are others who agree. And I know that they could do this because they change the creative force behind the show just about every season. So they could always change this zombie soap opera to hit upon the points I and others have talked about.

Exactly. Otherwise it gets really pointless for the characters to even go on or for the viewers to continue to watch. After a while you just start rooting for the zombies to finish them off after a while, just so the never ending slaughter will end.

You missed my point about hope. You said without hope for a cure there wasn't reason to go on and the survivors would give up. I wasn't saying I don't believe in hope. I was saying that just because there is no hope to cure the zombie outbreak doesn't mean the survivors don't have a will to live and keep their families alive. You mentioned Rick and Carl being depressed. Sure that's true, but they didn't put a gun in their mouth and end it. They can still have hope for themselves even if the world is never going back to normal.

As for your point about Jericho... They started to explain what was happening but they certainly didn't wrap up all the loose ends. CBS pulled the plug on them before they got to wrap it up. That's why fans of the show were so upset about its cancelation.

You clearly don't like the show if you think it's just a zombie kill of the week. I think it's more than that and I like the show. It's time to move on. You are never going to get a cure or see the government come save the day with this show. If that's what you need to watch the show you should probably just stop watching it.

Again, I completely disagree. Just because you can't make people around the world who you have never even met immune to the zombie outbreak doesn't mean you eat a bullet. If you love your family or just have a will to live in general you will keep trying to live whether or not Joe Blow in Kansas is vaccinated. The civilized world is over but their individual lives aren't.

The show's strengths have been related to the interactions of the group of survivors. It is a show about people that ordinarily would never associate with each other suddenly having to depend upon one another for their very survival. The humans are worse than the zombies because they will pretend to like you yet stab you in the back. At least with the zombies you know what they want and what they will do.

Boy, the post-zombie apocalypse sure makes it east to get rid of a spouse of someone else who ticked you off. Just shoot 'em in the back and let the zombies eat 'em. Just like Shane! Let's just say you had better be a man/woman of your word and work hard to build trusted relationships. Your life depends on it.

As to Jericho, they did wrap up the story. The evidence of the Vice President setting up the entire nukes in each major U.S. city that blew up ,was taken to the Republic of Texas along with the remaining nuke and with the fighter jets of the Allied States of America on their plane tale as they flew in to Texas. What ever country the Republic of Texas sided with or believed in would be the more powerful one and would survive. Obviously the truth of the Vice President and his plot would of swayed Texas to go with the United States of America and that would of ended the failed experiment of the Allied States, considering the soldiers who were in their military found out the truth also and started turning in their flags off their uniforms and were leaving their ranks towards the end. It was a foregone conclusion that U. S. would of won in the end , once Texas had the evidence and the nuke and they would of given it to the USA and that was the conclusion of the show.

But regardless of that show which I watched and really liked, you keep missing my points about hopelessness and the human spirit and the over all hopelessness that Rick and I am sure even Carl must feel at this time after the invasion of the prison and the death of Baby Judith. They lost their sanctuary (the prison) where they could have some semblance of a "normal life" . As normal as you can have in a Zombie apocalypse world. They also lost their adopted Grandfather in Hershel -as well as the country doctor skills he had. Both Rick and Carl must feel a bit shell shocked by now and if all they have to look forward to is more of the same I am sure that they would eventually just give up . I can see Rick is already there and the only reason why he didn't totally lose it after Lori was killed and eaten by the Zombie was because of baby Judith. Now after she is gone and they fought to escape the governor and the zombie hordes I just can't see Rick accepting all of this loss and say lets go farming again. Something has to give and if there is no hope there is no reason to go on. Sucide baby, or Sucide by Zombie in this case. But I am not going to go over it again. We will just agree to disagree on this subject.

Besides a guy at work today showed me a website on his laptop that discussed the second half of this season of the Walking Dead and that the director or writers of the show for this season said they will touch on the very subject I wanted them to discuss since I started watching it. They will return to some of the reasons why the zombie thing started and it will provide many answers that will be " very satisfying" for the fans of the show. So this is what I have been looking forward to and it looks like they will hit on it. So the second half of the season will be the best part of the show since the first season, if writers keep to their word in this website article discussing the show. NO, I didn't get the name of the site because I didn't have time and it was towards the end of the day and this office guy was leaving for the day. But either way hopefully this second half of the season will be "satisfying" for all of us.;)

If they manage to give some good back story on the outbreak/infection/etc. it could really help the show. They can still be mysterious and give a lot of back story.

IF you do a google search for The Walking Dead Season 4 and satisfying answers , there are many articles that speak about revelations in second half of season 4 that will provide satisfying answers to many questions , some going back to season 1. Also one article mentioned that Rick and Carl will meet 3 people on the road to Washington and they will find a zombie free area or sanctuary near Alexandria ,Virginia 6 miles from D.C. . Carol might be coming back and they might answer the question of whether baby Judith is alive or dead etc. So it does look like the 2nd half will touch upon many of the big picture answers I have been asking about.

Sounds like a bunch of speculation from people who may have read the books to me. The creators of this show are very secretive. If you watch talking dead you see that many times the actors don't even know their character is getting killed off until they start filming that week's episode. I just don't see them putting all their big plot points out there for everyone to see if they don't even tell the actors what's going to happen.

They may be speculating or they may be mixing the comic books stories with the show. I am hoping that they do follow some of the comics if it means getting to the bottom of the big picture questions I and others have posted. IF not , this will most likely be the last season for me. I need more than sad soap opera plots with zombie gore thrown in for good measure.

Hi in a strange way i'm new, not to Scott, or to this website, i'm a walking dead fan, and i came to the first post, which you sounded a wee bit like not to sure this would fly, so now what do you think of it? I think it's the hottest show on TV
